Hello!
I purchased this laptop back in 2021. I usually dont use it for running heavy applications.
I mostly use Excel, VS code and Chrome and some low resource hungry games sometimes.
Now for some reason, whenever I plug it in, it'll ramp up the fans and if I open 2 programs side by side, it starts to lag and will turn off eventually…
It works normally when its on battery.
What could be the possible reason for it to turn off ?
I'm not a tech person and haven't tried doing DIY before.
Please let me know if the issue can be fixed at home or should I go for a repair.
Thanks!

Here's the config:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3550H with Radeon Vega mobile gfx
Ram: 8GB
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650Ti

  • Hi @Specter Waiting for more answers that can help your query, please try once the power is connected to put the energy mode from the control panel to the minimum option, something similar to balanced or economizer, check if the problem is reproduced .

@Alejandro_AC : Thanks for your reply. My laptop is always on balanced mode.

Can there be anything else that's affecting the battery ?
Or could there be something wrong with the RAM ?
I'm not sure if my speculations could be correct. PLease let me know if you come across any other reason.
    thanks again!

    Thanks for the reply!
I'm not sure how a malware attack could happen thorugh the charging port.
Does your theory have any backup ?
I know Apple released some updates to its power cable but I haven't come across something similar in Windows' case.

  • Is the memory the one that the equipment had or have you changed it?

Problems with memory modules are usually related to reboots and not shutdowns, however, have you recently changed memory modules?

If the problem occurs when you connect the power supply, I think it's a problem with the power supply itself or with the charging circuit that switches battery power for power supply, but I'm not sure, I don't know this system thoroughly, maybe a technical service can give other reasons.

@Alejandro_AC I use the same RAM the laptop came with but you're right about the cleanup.
I don't have the necessary tools so I'll need to submit it to the repair center tomorrow.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

@leonaip Thanks for the suggestion. I took it to the repair center and I found out the air vents were blocked from inside because of dust and some lint gathered over past year.
The maintenance guy was really good and guided me on how to get rid of that stuff at home w/o spending a buck!
He did sell me a toolkit though… :D
