Chromebook screen vertical lines and the display is very pixelated.

My Chromebook has not been dropped, no damage or cracks to screen but has suddenly developed random intermittent vertical lines and the display is very pixelated. This is only 2 years old and well looked after.

Looking up advice online I have installed latest update, run diagnostics (all passed), complete a soft reset (holding refresh button 10 sec whilst pressing power), and now a powerwash. Nothing has helped! Any suggestions appreciated.

    Does the display change when you move the screen? If so we can start by looking at hardware, the cable that runs between the motherboard and display gets flexed each time you open or close the laptop, so it's not terribly unusual to see it develop internal cracks where it flexes. That can give display artifacts similar to what you are seeing.

    Hi, Thanks for your response. I just tried moving the screen and no it doesn't change as I move it.
    I was chatting to someone else yesterday off this forum and they suggested that the LCD display may be damaged internally and I may need a replacement screen.

    Do the artifacts show up in the Acer splash screen when you first power on? If so it's very likely hardware and since flexing the eDP cable doesn't change anything it's more likely the display itself. If it doesn't show on the splash screen is less likely hardware so we should look into the video drivers. Perhaps a full remove/replace of the OS would get it, since ChromeOS doesn't really support driver changes other than within the full OS.
