So i currently have the 5000 Po5-640 with 16gb ddr5 4400mhz. Wanted to upgrade to 32gb however instead of getting another 2x8 gb sticks since prices were pretty close i got 2x16gb crucial 4800mhz 40CL 1.1v ones ( couldnt find 4400 specifically and even the ram in this system is apparently 4800 hynix, just running at 4400 ).

Just wondering, can i add the 2x16gb sticks in the other 2 slots and have a total of 48gb?

Also for future reference, would adding another 2x16gb sticks of same type work ? As in quad channel same performance as dual channel ( iirc with ddr3 or so i read something like keep to 2x sticks cause 4x sticks will actually degrade performance).

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello! Yes, you can combine rams. However, it is important to note that these memories will work in flexible mode, that is, 32GB will work in dual channel and 16GB will work in single channel. Rams will also work at the lowest speed of 4400Mhz. You can also choose, in the future, to buy two pairs of ddr5 rams with xmp 3.0 profiles, to enable xmp in the bios:

Chris don't bother the computer runs better and faster with just the 32 gigs from crucial as i have done the same thing with mine at first i ran it 16-8-16-8 and loved it until someone told me about the demo version of 3dmark in steam and my score was lower with 48 than 32 believe it or not. i have pictures posted here so just use the 32 from crucial were the original 16 was. and xmp doesn't work on our predator computers acer has it blocked nobody can figure out how to enable it. so yeah, it will run at 4400 no matter what Ya get and with 4 sticks it runs at 4000 search articles here there are plenty as to why etc and gl and upgrade the cooler its subpar most of us have put in the Noctua NH-U12A its unreal and dropped my temps 15-20C. if ya have more questions ask away.

I wonder how it would run with 4 16 GB from crucial. Basically, I'm wondering if having 2 different RAM types is what is throwing off your score.

I have a question for you, Chug. You installed the Noctua NH-U12, right? The reason I am asking is that yesterday I ordered a couple sticks of RAM, but cancelled the order when I realized I would have to take off the CPU cooler to install it. When I was looking at the pics of the Noctua cooler, it looks like the fan is not hanging over the RAM slot and I can snap the RAM in with the cooler in place. Is this correct, or is there overhang?

well, that's what I'm told is why it's off from having mixed memory but it depends on what test Ya run when i do Cine bench r23 the 48 gig from the mixed 4 sticks gives me a better score that just 32 gigs does so there Ya go who knows and i got all 4 sticks in with the stock cooler no need to remove it the 4th one just needs to be slightly bent and squeezed in there, but it will go. and yeah, I'm debating ordering another 2x16 from crucial or just get 2x32 from crucial i don't know and I'm waiting until prices fall. there is no rush that's for sure. and yes, that Noctua is amazing i highly recommend it and yes it has clearance for any type of memory it says, or they claim. its offset so that it will not interfere with the memory with or without a heatsink.

I tell you what, I really do like this computer, but it has convinced me to build my own when it comes time to upgrade. It all started with this dang stock cooler not strong enough to cool this 12700 CPU. The only time my CPU isn't being thermal throttled (while gaming anyway) is when I open my window when it is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 °C) outside, and considering I live in Florida, it isn't 50 degrees that often lol. The limitations of the case and the motherboard is really frustrating.

Acer really should have used a better cooler with these 12th gen CPUs, and the problem is only going to get worse in the coming years. I am interested to see what they do to address this heating issue in the future. I have read that their 120 mm water-cooler doesn't cut it, so they have to do something.

Acer, if you are listening, I would have been willing to pay a little more for the system to have proper thermals, rather than doing it later on my own.

what model did you get? i feel the 5000 and 7000 series cases because they are the same are very upgradable i put that new cooler in mine and i have 2 fans up top and my games are 40-46 C before they were 63+. the only thing we cannot do without heavy modification is bottom fans and a 3rd in the front but the MB can be swapped out and Ya can upgrade the memory and cooler and GFX card and SSD so yeah, we can do quite a bit i feel. and acer along with other manufacturers will probably never upgrade their subpar cooling i did some research and to get a pre-built with adequate cooling costs 3k and up! yeah, I'm in NY its 22 outside now and snowing i wish i could keep mine in the unheated garage all winter then over an AC vent all summer Haha but I'm in the basement and its always 66 down here so it's not bad. my next one will be a corsair vengeance series they seem to have cooling down and all that cool stuff acer lacks but they start at 3500 whereas i paid 1500 for mine on sale of course so there is a big difference there in cost.

    I have the PO5-640.

When you say your temps were 63 before adding the two fans up top, you mean after adding the Noctua cooler, right?

My feelings about upgrading are this. If I am going to spend a few hundred bucks on a new motherboard, then I might as well spend a couple hundred bucks more and get a really nice case with really good airflow. I mean, there are just some beautiful cases out there. Man, would I love to slap a couple 200mm Noctua fans in the front, a 140mm in the back with a 280mm water cooler. I'm willing to bet that would keep a case cool.

Take a look at Startforge systems. It is a prebuilt PC company owned by a couple Twitch streamers, but they have some nice systems at pretty fair prices. There are a few videos on youtube of people breaking down the system, and they seem pretty well built. They had a few hiccups out the gate, but they seemed to have sorted it out.

with the stock cooler and fans in gaming mode i got 63C gaming and Cine bench r23 was over 80 i don't remember the exact temperature and my granddaughter plays some bluey and mickey mouse games there all web based in the browser those hit 75-80 then after installing the Noctua NH-U12A those same games are 40-44 and Cine bench is 63 and the browser games are 62 so no need for water cooling this air cooler rules i put the stock cooler fan up top right over the cooler then i found someone here who upgraded there cooler to the same Noctua as me but went with be-quiet fans up top for exhaust so they sold me there stock cooler frost blade fan so that's how i got 2. I'm happy with everything it stays cool and that's all that matters. maybe one day ill replace all the frost blade fans with Noctua ones but i don't know how much ill gain so it may not be worth the money. and yeah, i thought about getting a new case etc but with these few mods i did I'm getting excellent temps and i don't see the need. ok and another strange-weird thing i noticed is when i went from 48 gigs to 32 gigs for all those benchmark tests my temps went up a little i noticed when playing my games so i threw back in the 16 i took out and there back down again 2-3 C so I'm definitely going to be getting another 2x16 from crucial my mind is made up the more memory and 4 sticks seems to work for my system and keep it cooler by 2-3 degrees as odd as that is and unexplainable really.

Oh man, if I was getting 63c while gaming with the stock cooler, I wouldn't even be thinking about getting the Noctua cooler lol. With the stock cooler I hit 100c within a couple minutes of loading Battlefield 2042, even at the menu. My computer room is at about 68F because I have the window open and my cpu is sitting at 47c, and all i have going on is a video playing on Youtube! I have wondered if the thermal paste was applied improperly when the PC was being assembled. I guess I will find out on Wednesday when I install the Noctua cooler.

Thanks for the answers guys. Small update, was going to try the 48gb but then when i opened the case i realized i had to take off the cpu fan in order to access one of the ram slots and basically said screw it, cba to do that now so just went with the 32 and kept the 16 to test for when maybe i'll want to replace the cpu fan with something better.

Have a great day and thanks again.

Also, I'm thinking of buying something like this: https://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Magnetic-Filter-Computer-Dustproof/dp/B0B6ZVWM5N/ref=psdc_3012290011_t1_B08HHZ98DK and replacing the front glass screen with it. That, along with moving the GPU brace and the HDD holder thing, would probably open that case up like crazy.

it will fit in there i did it np with the stock cooler Ya just slide it in and slightly bend it and then it will fall in place trust me on this I've done it many times before i replaced the stock cooler.

when you game do you have predator sense on gaming mode? and what resolution are you playing at? having the fans going full blast is a must even with the new cooler i still run in gaming mode to keep temps down and yeah could be the thermal paste who knows anymore. and i don't have that game but someone else here does and has a 5000 series and has the same heat issues so i don't know I'm not buying it just to check my temps lol. and yeah, let us know and here are a few tips incase Ya haven't read any posts on it you will need 4-3mx10mm screws if you do not want to take out the MB and use the Noctua lga 1700 backplate. and read the instructions. and to mount the cooler fan above the Noctua you will need 4 screws and nuts i don't know the size i used i had an assorted package of them here so that's what i used and mount that fan first there will be minimal room if you do it after and there will be enough length on the wires for the fan to mount it up top. i have a post here if you want to read it what i did and how it went. and i was just reading reviews on steam for battlefield 2042 and its getting bad reviews all kinds of problems users are having so it could be related to that I'm not sure for the heat issues.

Thanks for the tips, man. I've been reading and rereading yours and the other guy posts about how to install the U12A. I'll post some pics after a successful installation… hopefully.

yeah, I'm sure it will all go well just remember to take your time and don't rush that's all and read the instructions lol. and we are only a couple clicks away if you need help. and make sure you have all the extra hardware needed ahead of time i didn't so mine took longer trying to find what i needed in my house lol.
