My Nitro N50-620 Desktop keeps shutting down if its idle for 5 minutes. If I am working on something like Photoshop, and use the bathroom or something, my computer will shut down and not save my work. To say the this is frustrating and not acceptable puts it mildly. How can I extend the time to shutdown from 5 to 30 minutes or just disable it. Though I do like the fast startup. Thanks!

The 5min suht down of the OS in your N50-620 could be from many factors of your PC, have a look at this article as you need to systematically check all these factors, Windows 11 PC Shutting Down For No Reason? Here's How to Fix It

    1. the culprit is your power supply I suppose (buy a new one)
    2. a signal that your mobo (motherboard) is failing or overheating (while there is time, remove the case side panels left and right, then put the desktop computer case near the air conditioner/directly on the aircon fan or use portable electric fan to blow air directly on the mobo)
    3. wipe clean the old thermal paste of your processor and the heat sink and put a new one.
    4. clean or replace your CPU fan if the rpm is slow.
    5. check your HDD/SSD, enable S.M.A.R.T. in the BIOS especially if you have mechanical drive (HDD). maybe it has many bad sectors and needs replacement (install Hard Disk Sentinel to monitor your drive)
    6. check and clean your RAM (gently rub the contact points clean using thumb size pencil eraser or fine steel sandpaper unit until it is crystal clear)
    7. another is corrupted operating system (do not use the modded ones, use original OS from Microsoft using rufus)
    8. you need to update the drivers (run Windows update or use IOBit Driver Booster / Driver Easy)
    9. a sign of malware attack (run adwcleaner, then run Smadav, lastly, install Symantec/McAfee Endpoint Protection)

how old is your desktop computer mate?

Take a look at the power settings. It shouldn't be shutting down, but it might be going to sleep or only turning off the monitor. If it's shutting down, does it ever happen while you are using it, or only when it's idle?

Only when its idle. If I leave a moving picture on the screen when I'm not using it, it won't shut down. If the screen doesn't move it will shut down and I will have to push the power button to start it. But, it will boot up in 15 seconds. What's bad is if I was working on something when it shuts down, it won't save it first.

    do a System Restore

    or

restore using the factory recovery image

    or

reformat your drive and do a clean Windows installation

OK, so likely what is happening is your power settings are configured to hibernate at 5 minutes of idle time. Press the Windows key then start typing 'edit power plan' to get the Control Panel version of the power editor. Use the Change advanced power settings link there to get rid of that 5 minute thing and set it somewhere more reasonable.

Hibernate is set for 240 Min. Acer has some power saver option that overrides the windows settings.
