Im sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Ive went onto crucial website, did a scan of my Nitro N50-600. It came up saying what RAM and SSD I can install. So i went and bought an SSD. It came up saying an NVME So bought one. I installed it, but my PC cant detect it. Wont show up in BIOS or anywere. I double checked to see if I have installed it, and it does look properly in.

Can anyone help with this, Thanks.

It should support NVME, what drive did you buy?

Its always worth removing and re-seating, M2 can be fiddely to install, it has to go in at an angle and really go into the slot :)

Thats most prob the issue. That ive not installed it correctly. I never did it at an angle as when i put in the ssd it slot str8 in. No problems.

Which CPU you got in the machine ? And what's the full model number of the drive? :) I can see others have used NVME's which is a good sign

When it's in, how much of the contact pins can you see? It took me a few goes to get mine to show in my laptop!

    Ive got a i5 9400f processor its 9th gen.

I can see like a slightest bit of the pins. Like the slightest. I tried pushin it down more but i didnt wanna break it. It wont go down any further.

    Its a sabrent rocket ssd.

It wouldnt let me edit my previous post.

But i rang up acer support. One guy says yes it will fit n work but i need a connecter. The ssd slot was put on for future use. But a connecter is needed. So he put me through to sales to buy one. I explained to him n he said no. If its on the motherboard it woll work nothin else needed. But still could not understand why it wont detect.

They may have been thinking a SATA SSD as you would need the cables maybe?, people on userbenchmark have got NVME working so we know its supported! ( https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/32047154 )

When installing it, did it natural spring at an angle? Usually you cant see any of the pins if its snug in, but this does vary by board. You souldnt need to press it in too much, just angle and press in  (   https://www.groovypost.com/news/windows-10-version-1803-april-2018-update-launches-monday-officially/  ) , it will spring up a little, then screw it down

If you are running the latest UEFI version, and a re-seat doesnt work again, it could be a fault drive or a faulty port. Do you have another machine with a NVME, or someone you could borrow one from so you could try it with?

And yeh the editing of posts is a tad odd, it seems to increase in time the more you post!

    Just an update.

I went onto windows update and onto optional updates.. there was an acer firmware update. So i did it. It updated and now with the ssd in.. the pc wont boot. I mean it turns on. But all i get is a black screen. So i took the ssd out and windows booted up.

    Hi,
I could only think of two reasons, is it a PCIe Gen 4 drive? If it is, it could be an incompatibility problem, the other is the thickness of the drive, if it has heatsink on both sides, the thickness may have caused the problem, it happened with XPG SX8200 in some laptops.

    Hi.

    Its a gen3 drive.

I can't get into anything while the ssd is in. Pc turns on and doesn't do anything, just gives me a black screen. Soon as I turn off the pc, I have to unplug it aswell otherwise it just turns itself back on again.

But I removed the ssd and windows booted and its all back to normal.

I checked my bios version and its r01-d1.

That's the latest version so it should be fine.  could try a full off to see if it's something weird going on.

Logout, Shift+shutdown, plug off at the wall, hold power untill fans still spinning then a few seconds more, when booting spam f2 see if you can get into the bios

Tried that. Still same result With the SSD not in, I can get into bios and windows. SSD in.. Nothing just black screen. Not even the acer logo at the start that allows me to press 'Del' key to enter bios. Anyway Ive attached 2 images of my bios to see if you or anyone can see a setting that should be changed. Sorry if the images are bigger then they should be. Thank you
  • It could also be the faulty SSD(DOA), replacing the faulty drive resolved the problem for a user, read his post in the second page of the link below, it was for a similar SSD but the problem was resolved by replacing the SSD, if it's possible, I would suggest you to check the SSD in another PC or a laptop before sending for a replacement.

Is there anything under rapid storage?

I'm thinking what if the machine is treating it as optane or disk cache? Do you have options for normal disk mode for the sata

This won't allow windows to boot but may allow us to troubleshoot

Hi, i brought Samsung 980 M.2 SSD (1 TB) i installed it on my acer nitro n50 600, i booted up the pc and it shows only black screen with some text where it says

(( Reboot and select proper boot device.)) i looked around in the bios with no clue on how to run this as primary SSD. Samsung 980 M.2 SSD (1 TB), because i wanted to have more GB on my PC, currently i only have 237 gb is not good enough for me. thanks

    Any help?

    Hi,

Do you still have the old M.2 SSD with the OS? Have you migrated the OS to the new SSD? If you have migrated the OS to new 980 SSD, you could try removing the original drive and try starting with only the new drive.

Use Macrium reflect free trial version to clone the drive, download and install Macrium reflect free Trial Home version(second row in the link), then use the dragging method to clone the old drive to the new SSD by following the instructions in the video and tutorial.
