Is the Noctua NH-D12L CPU Cooler compatible with the P03-640?

Specs:

MODEL: DG.E2WEB.008

Intel® Core™ i7-12700F

NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 3070

Windows® 11 Home (64 Bit)

16GB

I've seen more people with CPU heating problems and being advised to install a Noctua NH-U9S CPU Cooler.

After some research i found another model, the NH-D12L CPU Cooler, that it's suppose to have way better cooling. Can anyone tell me if it's compatible with my case and system?

Not sure anyone has installed this particular cooler. Anyway, the external dimensions of PO3-640 are: H 385 mm, W 175 mm, D 377 mm.

According to Noctua that cooler has the following measurements:

    Height (without fan) 145 mm

    Width (without fan) 125 mm

    Depth (without fan) 113 mm

    Weight (without fan) 700 g

    Height (with fan) 145 mm

    Width (with fan) 125 mm

    Depth (with fan) 113 mm

    Weight (with fan) 890 g

If the cooler fits, it will be a tight fit. Side panels are few millimeters each, motherboard few more, CPU is not flush with motherboard, and then there is the empty space between the backside of the mobo and side panel. Maybe it is time to take out the measuring tape and see?

Please report back your findings as they will be helpful for others.

IIRC someone did accidentally order that one and the extra height was a big factor in why it didn't work on their system. Stick with the recommended U9S.

This is my PO3-640 with the cooler MCPU44 with dimensions: 133x114x77mm

There is a gap of 2 cm between the top of the cooler and the glass panel

So i think the heigth should not be a problem, perhaps the depth that could invade the space of the dimm 4

Ended up buying the Noctua NH-D12L and installed it today. It's great!

It fits the P03-640 case and the backplate that comes with its not even needed for the mouting so no need to take the motherboard out to do the installation. I only needed to take the stock CPU cooler out and put in the Noctua.

Temps used to reach 100ºC and now they reach 70ºC. Huge difference, highly recommend!

Fits like a glove. Though to fit it properly I did have to take out the entire motherboard which was a pain. Had to pull all the cables out, gpu and front panel too. As had to put back plate on to fit cooler properly. Tried with the one it came PC with, but not compatable.

Instead of thermal throttling, now hardly reaches 70.

Bought PO3-640 las Christmass and just find out that my cpu temp going crazy…up to 99. Put fresh past this morning but still the same thing. I can keep it under control by hiting the cpu fan on at least 80% to keep the temp around 80 but then the noise is unpleasnt. So what I want to say is, Thank you guys for great tips I am gonna order Noctua NH-D12L.

Sorry but I have to ask you. I have same mobo with i5 12400 that is LGA 1700 socket if I am not wrong. I just watch several videos about instaling Noctua NH-D12L and in everyone of them they put backplate. Am I missing something here?

Nope, just use the different length screws people here recommend and there's no reason to replace that backplate.

Is this true? I was planning on buying the NH-D12L thinking that it was necessary removing the motherboard in order to install the fan.

The NH-D12L is a really tight fit in the PO 3000 models, but it does fit. Not need to remove the backplate, just use the M3x10mm screws that others have suggested with the stock back plate.
