Acer Aspire V3-571G BIOS 2.15 Problem with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT630M

After I updated my BIOS to the latest 2.15, I notice that the dedicated NVIDIA card doesn't run normally, the frequency keeps going up and down all the time. I've already cleaned out the fan and applied the new thermal paste into it and it still not works. I think it's a BIOS related problem Smiley Happy

If the problem started after you updated then you may just be right. Why did you update the bios? Was there something you were trying to solve or was it just because there was an update available? You can always download a copy of your previous bios image and reinstall that to see if the issue goes away.

The thing is you can't downgrade the BIOS, I've tried it. Yes, I didn't have any problems before updating to 2.15

Yes you can. Put the rom image onto a usb and restart the unit holding the FN key and the ESC key. If it still doesn't work grab your old copy of the rom image and change the version number to higher than the one you just installed.

I did try to use the Fn+ESC function to restore the BIOS. But nothing happens, just 3 long beeps then the notebook boots back normally.

I don't really get what you mean by changing the rom image name to the higher version of the BIOS ? I don't really know the naming scheme for the 2.xx BIOS so I can try Fn+ESC again.
Thanks for all the help so far Smiley Very Happy

What I've been doing so for a while is to reinstall Windows 8 and update all the drivers. It doesn't solve the problem at all.
The BIOS recovery option doesn't work with the newly UEFI one I believe ? Is there any ways to re-flash the BIOS ?

As you guys can see in the image, the frequency of the GPU is really weird, during the 4-5 minutes of gameplay, extremely unstable. I think this could be from a BIOS-related problem.
Much needed a new BIOS or a way to reflash the older BIOS file. I'm tired because of this already, can't play any games.

    Here's my system informations:

What is your nvidia driver version? Actually the GPU runs at high frequancy only when it's needed. It's similar to the turbo boost technology. Have you checked your GPU temperature? You can try running GPU-Z. Smiley Happy

326.80, you can see it at the first screenshot I've posted.
Well, I did have to watch back the cooling system again. Probably it's not working well.

Your links aren't working Smiley Happy That's what I get.

Try to downgrade the drivers to 314.22. When I got my V3-571G the newest drivers were 314.22 - after this they realeased a new version. After I installed it - BSOD - 5 minutes later. Restart - 10 minutes later BSOD. I checked the nvidia forums and it seems that these drivers were unstable - lots of ppl had problems. Most of them had GT 630/640/650M. They fixed some bugs - but they were mostly game related - other ppl were complaining that the new drivers **bleep**ed up their battlefield and some other games. After this their priority was to release drivers for some GPUs for windows 8 and that issue is still not fixed in the newer drivers.

    P.S. Uninstall PhysX too.

I'll give that a shot then. Thanks Smiley Very Happy

Well after reinstalling the 314.22 driver, framerate starts to run better, now that I can play game more fluently. But, random drops keep happening but not as much, it could be from the cooling system still. Thanks for the adviceSmiley Wink

GPU Frequency is not stable again somehow ... It's really annoying ...

What exactly do you mean by not stable? When I'm not in game - chatting/browsing etc the nVidia GPU stays at 135Mhz. Why? Well, because the i7 processor has integrated GPU that is used for simple tasks like this. When I'm in game the nVidia gpu overclocks to 900Mhz. Is this 62C temperature your idle temperature or your screenshot is after playing a game?

It just keeps dropping up and down. The same as that screenshot I've posted up earlier.
Yes I'm thinking that the cooling system has some sort of problems, maybe I'll need to check it out first before saying anything else

So I'm going to have to do a bit of catchup here. Please feel free to make sure I have the right info or correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll see what I can do to help.

    1. Help me understand what's dropping up and down? Is it affecting frame rate in the game?

    2. Can you try using Nvidia's most up to day non-beta drivers 320.49

    Marwen,

Help me understand this problem. What are you playing, what specifically does 'not stable' mean.

At this point, I see a few of you having issues, I'd have to refer you to support at this point. I need more data to take it to our engineering teams and ask them to validate the issues you bring up.

hallo what i mean by not stable is that the FPS are not stable!!!!!! for exemple in NFS most wanted with medium details it goes from 32FPS to 18-16 FPS then go back to 32FPS and this because of the not stable Horloge of the GPU it goes from 725MHZ to 200MHZ!!!!!! really strange but when i searched for a solution in google i found many people suffred from this issue and this throttling and they said that temperature throttling and fan controle are not well configurated espacially in this model and with this version of bios!!!!!!!!!!!! also i have noticed that the fan didn't speed up when playing any games it speed somme times and i'm really sure that it had no problemes!!!!!!!!!! so is there any solution please??????? and if not can you help me to downgrade the bios to another version ???????????

I think we need to take a step back here. I'm not saying that there isn't potential for an issue, but based on the data I see; Number of downloads, Total Units, etc... I'm not seeing anything that would imply that the 2.15 BIOS is an issue. It has been out for over 2 months with a lot of downloads, and I'm seeing a very small number of complaints. I believe there may be something else causing this. It could be software, it could be hardware.

If we could run through the following troubleshooting steps, it may help us narrow this down.

    1. Take canned air or an equivalent and blow out the machine, make sure dust build up isn't causing the unit to reach temperature thresholds and bottle neck your system.

    2. Reinstall the appropriate Nvidia drivers, I'd suggest trying the ones that came out of the box. This link has info on how to do that. Compare those to the 320.49 (current WHQL certified Nvidia drivers) and see how these perform. Also, here is the driver offered on our support page we'd really need to get feedback on this particular driver.

VGA NVIDIA VGA Driver 9.18.13.0717 417.6 MB 2013/03/06 Download

    3. Make sure you don't have other software that could be causing issues

    4. Finally, I'd suggest fully reloading the system and starting over. Try piece by piece, install a game, try it, try updating the VC driver, do windows updates slowly.

If you reload and you're still having trouble, I'd suggest service at this time. I'll be watching for more feedback and working with our engineers to see if they provide any updates.
