What to buy to watch DVD on Acer Chromebook CB317-1H?

I have an Acer Chromebook, and I want to add some external device so I can watch a DVD on my Chromebook. What device should I buy? (I am an old lady, so keep it simple, links will be appreciated! ) I do not need to rip CDs or download anything, I am not going to "write" a Cd, I am not going to carry this all around, all I am just hoping to find a device I can buy to plug into my Chromebook to watch a movie at home. Something simple.

That was in 2018. Apparently Chrome no longer supports VLC (just opens a useless square). Advice seems to be to load Linux and go from there. Just spent an hour with a 317-1ht and could not make it work.

well, I was hoping to buy an external gadget of some type, to just plug in to my laptop and watch DVDs. Is there anything like that available?
