Hello, I wanted to make my brother chritmas gift.

So i installed Fedora to usb bc he needs linux for university. But i won't show in boot menu. Then i realized that i installed it for legacy bios so i reinstalled fedora so it can be booted by uefi.

But i isn't showing usb too. So i added efi file to trusted ones but when i try to boot from it it just showing booting countdown and then windows is booting. Pls can somebody help me.

Laptop model acording to bios is Aspire A517-51G and it's running windows 11.

Fedora 37? What tool / options are you using to burn the USB :)?

Using virtual box? To create a bootable stick you need to "burn" it, you cant just cipy the files across :) something like Rufus should do the trick for you

It's possible to install on usb using virtualbxo. If i will burn it using rufus i will only have liveusv and installation not fully os. And i have said that on my laptop it was booting and it was working. Me and my brother can't figure what to do we turned off secure boot we added efi file nothing so this is normal usb now.

When you say installing it using virtual box im assuming you mean using the USB as the drive right? That really isnt the right way of doing it as the the drive probably isnt set as bootable, but your laptop is probably working as some laptops ignore that flag.

One thing to check is if RST / VMD is enabled on the lappy, from the BIOS head to the main tab and hit control + s, then on another tab a hidden option for that may appear, i dont think this laptop used RST but its always worth a check

Acers boot code is a bit "odd" in that theres loads of things which should work but just dont! (And when i say odd, its far more complicated than i could do aha, im always curious about how people interpret the rfc's and specs)

As an aside you shouldnt need to disable secure boot, and unless fedora was istalled without it, you would need it on, Fedora used Redhats signing key which is cosigned my MS and should be on pretty much every device with windows

The proper way would be to use a linux vm to create a live Boot USB with persistance overlay, ala https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/creating-and-using-a-live-installation-image/#using-the-livecd-iso-to-disk-tool
