Hello, I have searched on the forum and found a lot of people have complained about USB ports not working. I have searched all over but could not find a solution and I want to resolve this issue hence I am posting on to this knowledgeable community for a resolve.

I have Acer aspire V5-471P machine, with 3 usb ports; 1 blue USB port which is 3.0 and 2 black USB ports which are USB2.0. The machine came pre installed with Windows 8.1. The 2 black USB ports stopped working when I tried to put an external mouse and a printer.

I tried all the fixes including power management and fast startup and registry fixes but it didn't fix the issue. I even upgraded the latest Bios from Acer website.

I formatted the drive and install Windows 10 64 bit version with latest drivers. Blue USB port wiht USB flash 3.0 works fine and I installed the windows through it but the same USB 3.0 driver doesn't work in other 2 USB ports (which are USB2.0). Device Manager detects all USB hub and controllers just fine. When I plug a USB mouse in (black ports) it detects device but fails to install driver for it. It does the same to any flash drive or USB drive that I try to plug in. It is not a hardware issue but seems to be a driver issue to me. The two USB ports has power but it fails to install correct drivers for it.

I would be grateful if anyone of you can provide me a solution to install the correct USB controllers or hub drivers for it.

I have installed the chipset drivers from acer website. Card reader works fine after installing drivers. I have no un-installed drivers or exclaimation mark on any of the USB controllers or Hub after installation. The problem is as soon as I plug anything in USB2.0 ports it detects it and try to install drivers; only to find no new drivers and gives an error.

Thanks for you post but I do not have acer support center in my country of residence. I bought this machine from US.

I think from my reading on internet, I need updated mother board drivers for my machine which I have not found so far.

First of all we need to determine whether it is a hardware or software issue

Please purchase the acer recovery media , install the operating system. It will work fine. If it is still not working after reinstalling the windows using acer recoveyr media then it is a hardware issue.

I have another idea. Kindly try to use a external usb hub , connect it to usb blue port usb 3.0 and check whether you can use multiple ports on the usb hub. This is the best solution for your issue if you dont want to use the Acer recovery media.

Thanks for your post. I appreciate you are taking time to respond to my post but the whole point of using a hub on a notebook is lost as it will not be portable with hub.
