Touch Pad on D260

Aspire One D260 running Win 7-64 has been connected to a real monitor and a wireless mouse.

When typing on the small keyboard, it seems the the sensitivity of the touch pad is too great and inadvertent movements cause the cursor to jump around, and make typing a real chore.

I have tried to disable the touch pad thru the control panel, an also clicked the "disable it when a USB mouse is attached" but neither had any effect.

What other option are there?

Besides a remote keyboard as well.

The small keyboard may be a benefit as the regular user is a one handed typist.

Go into Control Panel-Mouse-Pointer Options and click "Hide Pointer When Typing."

    Tried that Vince.  Didn't help.

I also went to "elan smart pad" and said to disable it altogether,

    That did not help.

If I went at it thru Device manager, it said that the pad was working normally, even while the mouse entry process said it was disabled.

I uninstalled the software for the smart pad and re-booted.

    The **bleep** thing still worked.

Back thru device manager, It not said I had a PS/2 compliant mouse, so I deleted he driver for that , and rebooted.

Now it still says I havea ps/2 compliant mouse, but at least it does to work.

God only knows what I might have to do if I want it again,  I used ot use this machine for readig books, which is the only time I wanted the pad.

And then it cmae back on its own.

I uninstleld the PS/2 driver again and it stopped.

I went in to "autoruns" and found the line for "Elan"  and unchecked it.

    Maybe that will be permanent.

The fix is not permanent. It comes back from time to time, but can be unistalled again and rebooted..............

There should be a simpler way,

Gene, try installing the free Win Patrol program. It will show you all your start-up items and currently running items. Don't delete anything, just disable it, until you're sure that it is unnecessary. And don't interfere with anything from Microsoft or Acer.

I dowloaded win patrol. It did not teach me anything I could not get from "autoruns" or control panel, but it came with a separate toolbar that looked suspicous, and a PCperformce tool that took aover and started scanning for something , and would not stop until I powered off the machine, and had to chkdsk to fix it after I removed all the extra software.

I would  not recommend that course of action.

I'll live with uninstalling the driver.......whenever it gets resurrected.

    But thanks anyway.

Pressing Fn + F7 disables the internal touchpad.  You should not need to go into msconfig or install a seperate app.

You have all the special keys running along the top of your keyboard you can use whilst also holding down the Fn key on the bottom left of your keyboard.

    Hope this helps.

Gene, I'm glad that you got your problem solved. When you download Win Patrol from its website, it does not sneak in any bloatware. However, other sites will let you download it while they add unwanted software.
