PREDATOR ORION 5000 PO5-640-- Upgrading RAM With 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance 5200 MHz

Hello all,

I recently purchased the Predator Orion 5000 PO5-640 gaming system and I decided to upgrade the ram with 2 16GB x2 Corsair Vengeance 5200MHz modules and was told by a Geek Squad rep to enable XMP. I enabled XMP and the frequency went from 4400 MHz to 5200MHz. System booted up like normal with no issues. Loaded up Modern Warfare and the game played perfectly fine. After seeing Modern Warfare consuming almost 50% of my 32GB of memory, I decided to add 2 more sticks of 16GB x2 making it 64GB total. Left XMP enabled, system booted up just fine but then after getting in game on MW, the game itself started freezing up and crashing. Went back into my bios to check and see if I missed something when I added the other 2 modules and there is no settings anywhere to be found to tweek the timings, frequencies, voltages, etc.

I then reinstalled MW and the game seemed to play ok with no freeze ups. The next day I jumped on and loaded into the game, it started crashing again. Im clueless as to what is going on with the game crashing but my system runs fine otherwise.

My question to the community... is this motherboard not designed to run maxed memory with high frequency modules? Is it better to remove the other 2 modules and just run 32GB of ram with the XMP enabled so I can get higher frequency speeds since the game ran stable with 32GB or just trash the motherboard all together and get a board that I can have the freedom of being able to tweek the CPU and RAM settings rather than dealing with a locked MB and CPU? Your thoughts? Thanks guys!!

    Hi,

Your motherboard supports the memory speed up to 4400MHz, I have checked a couple of compatible CPUs and they also support up to 4800MHz frequency, so I think the higher frequency may have caused the issue, I would suggest you disable XMP and check whether it resolves the issue, otherwise, use only the stable 32GB setup.

i called and talked to crucial last night ....and they told me dont use xmp..... it shortens the life of the memory.... by overclocking it .....and its better to max out memory in the pc compared to overclocking...so keep that in mind overclocking kills components.... where adding my more ram makes the pc faster than overclocking does anyways =]]

All memory in the system has to XMP before you can enable that. The original memory is likely not XMP, so the option isn't available.

Hi. Where can I access the service manual for the PO5-640? My unit has Core i7 12700F and RTX 3080.

    Thanks.

Service manuals are not readily available for customers. Don't ask me why. Did some googling and found this. I know it is not a real service manual but a user manual. At least it shows how to take the PC apart etc. Hope it helps.

    Download it from => https://manuals.coolblue.nl/a2/acer-orion-5000-640-i7404g.pdf

Hi. Can you please answer my question: Can I use a tower cooler with 2 fans installed (push-pull design)? If yes, where should I connect the 2nd fan? There is only 1 CPU fan header mentioned (#4 in the picture) and the 2 of #3 are for the water colling. Does one of the #3s work for a 2nd CPU fan?

    Thanks.

Morning! (Well, at least here it is. ^^)

Can I use a tower cooler with 2 fans installed (push-pull design)?

Sure you can if your case has enough clearance. The last time I checked second fan will lower temps by few degrees. On the other hand, to achieve the same temp (ie. one fan vs. two fans) you should be able use lower RPMs ==> a little bit less noise.

If yes, where should I connect the 2nd fan?

I'd use that dedicated CPU fan header for both and use Y-splitter fan cable. Many Noctuas come with them, but I'm sure other manufacturers have them too. You can plug additional case fans to those other connectors (number 3) if you want. I find it interesting that there are actually 2 of these connectors. Usually manufacturers use slitters for rad fans. Wierd.

If you want to add an additional fan to a cooler that comes with only one, try to find identical fan or get two from the beginning. It is better that the fans have identical specs.
