Hello,

I recently purchased a Helios 300 PH315-54-760S - Tech Specs | Laptops | Acer United States. The specs indicate (unless I am reading it wrong), that it is possible to charge the laptop through the USB-C port. However, whenever I try to plug in a USB-C to my 65W wall brick, nothing happens. I am wondering if I am doing something incorrect or am I mistaken that it is capable of charging through the USB-C port.

    Hi @ Cobr
Starting with USB, the Helios 300 offers three USB 3.2 Type-A ports and one USB 3.2 Type-C port. The Type-C port doesn't support DisplayPort so, unfortunately, this laptop can't provide a one-cable connection to a USB-C monitor. Still, you have plenty of options for connecting USB devices

Thank you for the response. It is still a little confusing though. From the page on my specific model of laptop it says this:
    USB Type-C port: USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps), DisplayPort over USB-C, Thunderbolt 4, USB charging 5 V; 3 A

Wouldn't this imply that this model of Helios 300 does have Display Port over USB-C? Also, my original question was more regarding charging too. Even if it cannot connect to a monitor, is it able to charge? The part that says USB charging makes me think so, but it is not working.

I have a Predator Helios 300 (Processor (11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz, 2304 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processors).  I am currently connected via Thunderbolt 4 port to a monitor using Thunderbolt 3.  So while charging is not currently working for me, TB-out is with one external display.  However, connecting daisy-chained TB monitors blue-screens the laptop.

Hey everyone. Have the same question here. I own Predator PH315-54-73GX NH.QC1EU.006 and wonder if I can use usb-c port as a full-fledged Thunderbolt 4 port (because tech specs say it supports "USB 3.2 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps), DisplayPort over USB-C, Thunderbolt 4, USB charging 5 V; 3 A")? Same question regarding using this port for charging the laptop using 65-watt charging brick.

Thanks for your reply. Just found this option in bios and enabled it. Anyway, the main question is if I can charge the laptop using USB-C port? I had not tied to connect a 65-watt wall charger to it yet to not harm the device.

  • There are two conflicting pieces of information here:

I think it is possible to charge the laptop through the usb-c port.

After a little research, I found that my model does not support charging via USB-C port, but can only provide USB power via this port.

Maybe I could be wrong regarding this. On the other hand, it supports Thunderbolt 4, but unfortunately, I don't have any device to check this.

@jimblind your usb c port doesnt support power over usb for charging (its only 3.2 gen 2 10gbps and its thunderbolt compatible but might not work well u need a 40gbps port to have thunderbolt working properly it will support some displays but will never support properly an egpu for ex) it would have the same exact symbol as you have on the changer port for ex my spin 5 supports it u need at least a usb c port that supports 40w for an igpu or up to 60/120w++++ for a dgpu i have a 60w anker usb c to usb c iq charger for my spin 5 works great
