I just purchased an Acer monitor today, and after using it as my main screen for a while I notice that, some system apps or executables may sometimes take ages to load up or to be closed, and in the case of closing, the apps are just in "Not responding" state and may sometime crash fully. Outside the time when the system is acting up like described, most of the time it just runs flawlessly as if nothing happened.

With the HDMI cable unplugged and the default laptop being used, the system just run like normal, no crashing or long loading time like above. But if I chose PC screen only, the system would stay on PC screen only for a short while and then immediately switch back to its previous mode (in my case 2nd monitor only).

Are there any fixes to both of my problems above? Do I need to install any extra drivers?

System Information:

Monitor: Acer KG251QJ

OS: Windows 11 22H2, OS build 22621.819

[Laptop]

Processor i5 11400-H

16 GB RAM

512 GB disk (if this matters)

Graphic 1: Intel UHD Graphics

Graphic 2: GeForce 3050 Ti Laptop GPU

Depending on what laptop you have, it could easily only be using one GPU for the internal display and another for the external. The Intel UHD will be somewhat slower than the GeForce 3050 Ti.

How do I do this? And is it possible to force use Nvidia GPU for the external display instead?

For my laptop, it' s the one here: https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/gigabyte+g5+md+51de123sd+741777 (Site in German you might need to translate)

I posted the same problem in Microsoft Support as well and I will post updates here as well:

Update 1: Seems like the problem only happens after a shutdown aka system would only slow down if you shut it down for the night and then boot it up the next day. The problem still persists after updating NVIDIA driver.

Update 2: I did a clean boot as well and still can't detect any problems.

Furthermore, it seems like any Windows UWP apps (like Settings for example) or any built in Windows apps (Resource Monitor, Device Manager, Task Manager, etc.) are affected by this.

Update 3: As soon as I unplug the HDMI cable all queued app that couldn't open will instantly be launched. And if somehow Task Manager managed to open with 2nd monitor only, then the graphs will run for half the way and freeze for the whole time (like this image) with a huge spike at first

Update 4: It only took me about 7 times of plug and unplug for the system to work normally, and the graph spike above always happen when Task Manager is launched
