I've recently bought an Acer Predator XB253QGPbmiiprzx 25 Inch. I like it a lot, coming from another older Acer monitor, but a 22". But, I have a problem.

I have noticed in two of the games that I play most (American Truck Simulator and European Truck Simulator 2) I am getting a lot of ghosting when I look around. I have tried all day and close to tears in trying to remove the ghosts. Believe me when I say that I'm very close to just giving up.

In the OSD I turned off Adaptive Sync and turned Overdrive to extreme from normal and it was much, much worse. Turned Overdrive off and lo and behold no ghosting. BUT, I bought this monitor because of the G-Sync ability. So, now I have this monitor that, in all intents and purposes does exactly the same as my old one, only it's bigger. So, I will definitely get micro stutter as I play on, I think.

So, Why is overdrive greyed out when G-Sync is turned on ? The only explanation I have seen is that it is automatically turned on when G-Sync is turned on. No explanation just a fact and in another instance "buy a fully G-Sync monitor. (Not an option) So, again, why can't I turn Overdrive off ???

Thanks.

Unfortunately, the latter explanation/suggestion might be close. AMD's Free-Sync hardware only claims to be nvidia G-Sync compatible. But it's not nvidia's hardware. So there might be some price/performance tradeoffs. However, just in case you haven't done so already, go to this link to download and install the latest monitor driver (in Win10 or in Win11's Win10 compatiblity mode) and Acer's Display Widget app to play around with. User manual is also available if you didn't get one.

Ok. Thank you for replying. I'll have a looksie at that Widget and didn't think I needed a driver for a monitor. Seen somewhere that Windows took care of that with plug and play.

BTW, I had a look at a G-Sync monitor that was almost the same spec as mine but with a higher refresh rate and G-Sync (with adjustable Overdrive). It was £686. I can't believe how expensive they are,

OK. Please let us know how close you can get to the G-Sync hardware abilites. And how you were able to do it if possible. Thanks.

I've just updated the driver and installed the widget (latest version) and restarted P.C.

I can change the Overdrive to off in the widget when Adaptive sync in turned on in the OSD settings. But, unfortunately it doesn't save the setting when I press OK in the widget. It goes back to normal Overdrive in the Widget and the monitor OSD remains on Normal Overdrive.

So, I still can't turn Overdrive off when Adaptive sync is ON. :(

    >>>Overdrive off when Adaptive sync is ON.>>>

Checking your manual, I note this note. I guess it is what it is. 😶

    Note:

    1. If Adaptive-Sync is “ON”, then the Over Drive selection is set to

    “Normal” automatically

    2. If Adaptive-Sync is “OFF”, then the user can set Over Drive to

either one of the three settings including: (a) Extreme (b) Normal

    (c) Off

Yes. Shame you can't turn overdrive off when Adaptive sync is on. I'm not an expert on these things but, looks like I'll have to live with it. Can't really afford one that is variable overdrive. £686 last time I looked.
