I have an Aspire 5 A515-56 and run 2 monitors (extended not mirror) off it using a HDMI port for one and a HDMI adapter to USB 3. All worked well until i switched on yesterday and the second screen running off the HDMI/USB3 adapter doesn't detect the laptop and switch on anymore. I've switched the monitors round and the same happens, so I think its the adapter?

I think its the adapter but could it be the port? I purchased a replacement adapter but bought the HDMI to USB C. and it wont work in the USB C port. Help!

Would an adapter just go? Its not under any duress/temp spike etc.

It is most likely the adapter, but you can test the port just by plugging something in like a flash drive. USB-C adapters are a special breed, the cheap ones require DP Alt Mode support on the port, and many USB-C ports don't support that mode. Here are the specs on your USB-C port:

As you can see, DP isn't supported, so those types of adapters will not work. You need the older style like you had before, though it will be more expensive than the new types.

what adapter was it? I bought a cheap USB-A to HDMI adapter and the laptop recognizes it but the monitor says "no signal" meaning the adapter isn't converting a usable signal to the monitor? Any help is appreciated.
