Acer 2051W monitor problem

My AL2051W monitor has started switching itself off and on. When It goes off, the light on the power button goes out but the light on the AC adaptor stays on. I can switch it back on by pressing the power button but if I do nothing the monitor will switch itself back on within 20 seconds or so. Have checked that the cable is properly plugged in on the rear of the monitor.

Any idea what may be wrong with it?

Well my first thought would be to check the connection to the back of the monitor to see if there is a solid connection. Make sure the port on the back is not loose or possibly pushed in. If all looks good then I would say try a simple power reset on the unit by unplugging the unit then hold the power button down for about 30 Seconds and then plug the power back in. Then as last result call in if the unit is in warranty.

Also, make sure that the power plug is pluged into the wall, and not a power strip. I had one flake on me like that and all it was was an old power strip. If it is pluged into the wall, make sure it is snug, and not hanging out a little.

I did the power reset as you suggested and it seems to have cured the problem. Thanks for your help.

The monitor is back to it`s old tricks again, switching on and off. It can switch off then on again 2 or 3 times in a few minutes. The blue light on the power button goes out most times, but not always. Sometimes the blue power light stays on but the screen goes off.

When it goes off, pressing the power button will switch it on again, but it often goes off again a few seconds later. I end up constantly pressing the power button to keep the screen working. Yet at other times it can stay on with no problems for an hour or more.

I don`t want to have to buy a new power supply adaptor in case that isn`t the problem.

I suspect that the power button on the monitor is faulty, but would that explain why the monitor sometimes goes off but the power button light stays on?

It`s nearly 7 years old so I`m not sure what to do. Do I bin it and buy new, or try it with a new power adaptor lead?
