Predator PH315-52 FPS / refresh rate issues on my notebook

Im having issues with my FPS / refresh rate on my notebook. I run it along with an Acer monitor that has 165hz refresh rate.

I use it mainly for gaming and the issue is that when I open some games it seems that my FPS is capped, or that is, im having HUGE frame skips. The problem is, all FPS counters I use (GPU FPS counter, CS:GO FPS counter, iRacing FPS counter) do count as if Im having a 165 fps just like it would normally.

The issue solves if I restart my notebook, but it is very annoying as it comes out of nowhere. It happens when Im already using the laptop for a few hours and then start a game. If im already playing a game, the issue does not appear. It is only when Im switching from using the internet or some other thing and then I start a game.

Also, the FPS/Refresh Rate cap then does not happen exclusevely on gaming. After the issue appears, even in tasks like dragging a Folder around in my desktop, i can see the frame skipping happening. It feels like im capped at 30 or 50 fps. Really strange.

Can someone help me? Is this an common issue? I hope I was able to explain it clearly. If not, im happy to give more details and find a solution to it.

Thanks!

Which spec PH315-52s do you have, as there are many cpu/gpu versions of this laptop that starts from the 8th Gen i5-8300H or the i7-8750H and then the 9th Gen i5-9300H or the i7-8750H or the top i7-9750H-R CPUs.

Also you have to realise theat these upper games like the iRacing need a top gpu and if your PH315-52 has an i5-8300H with the GTX-1650 then that combo is not really a top spec for iRacing that really needs a high-end spec gaming laptop like to play iRacing at its best:

    1. Intel Core 9-10980XE @ 3.0GHz, Intel i9-9900KS @ 4.00 GHz, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X or AMD Ryzen 3950X
    2. Memory (RAM) - Minimum: 16GB / Best is a High End: 32+GB
    3. Graphics (GPU) - Recommended: 6GB Dedicated vRAM / Best is a High End: 8+GB Dedicated vRAM

So all the above are factors of your laptop running at its best especially with an external 165Hz monitor, which btw I'm also running a 165HZ on an AN515-56 / Intel Core i7-11800H with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and I’m having troubles with fps as you can expect that with a 165Hz monitor as to increase fps you need to reduce screen resolution, change power and performance option settings (but laptops have a limit) use ThrottleStop and use a fps booster program like Razer Cortex or similar as the bottom line is that fps on your laptop can be affected by various factors, including hardware (like graphics card, motherboard, CPU and memory) and the graphics and resolution settings in your games. Commonly, the graphics card and CPU affect fps the most.

Hello @StevenGen, thank you for your reply!

    Here are my specs:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz  2.59 GHz

    16,0 GB RAM

    GTX 1660Ti

The thing is, my issue is not that my PC cant handle the games themselves, as the issue only happens from time to time. In moments when it is fine, I run all of those games at max FPS with no big issues.

And id like to reinforce that when this "glitch" starts happening, it does it do everything im running at my pc, so I notice it even when minimizing or expanding a window folder on my desktop.

So, to summarize. My issue is not that im having FPS drops or low FPS in games per se, because in normal conditions my PC runs it at a good FPS rate. But it occurs from time to time that it glitches and even if the game, and my GPU, shows that im running it at 165fps, in reality, my screen is having very big frame skips, looking like in reality its close to 30 or 50 fps.

It's got to do with the GTX-1650ti gpu, which is not as good as the newer RTX gou's and this gpu is known for having problems, as it struggles with high end usage and especially with an external 165Hz monitor and prolonged gaming when the gpu gets hot hence and why the reasons that you say:

"But it occurs from time to time that it glitches and even if the game, and my GPU, shows that im running it at 165fps, in reality, my screen is having very big frame skips, looking like in reality its close to 30 or 50 fps".

Try to reinstall the NVidia latest driver and use the drivers "clean install option" that uninstalls all the previous drivers and also, install and use the NVidia GeForce Experience settings for the games that you play, as NVidia has this software for the best and ultimate settings for your GTX-1650ti gpu gaming. As having individual setting for games that you do yourself could contribute greatly to problems and that is why NVidia have bult GeForce Experience, which btw I use and have great success with most of the games that I play. Also, remember a laprops limits, as its not a desktop where you can improve its psu, gpu and especially its cooling which is crucial in playing high end games for long periods of time and a desktops cpu and ram can be overclocked considerably within bios. bios can be

    Thank you again Steven.

Ok, i'll try to reinstall the drivers, but this is an issue thats been going on for a few driver versions already, Im feeling this will not solve.

Once again, I feel like I couldnt quite make my issue understood. When im gaming (GTX 1660ti, btw), the GPU and CPU temps are mostly at 80, 82 oC. Doesnt feel like an heat issue.

In fact, the issue does not appear in situations where ive been gaming for too long. It is actually most common to happen when my GPU is idle for a long time. Like I said, when browsing the internet for a while THEN trying to load a game. At the moment I start the game -CSGO more often- (which I imagine causes the GPU to start getting pushed a bit more) its when the issue appears, and, like I said, its stays there even after closing the game.

It is hard to me to explain this because is such and unusual issue to have. First time I see this in my life, and english is not my first language so it gets even harder to make it understood.

This issue has not been solved. Ill comment here to see if anyone else had this issue and solved it successfully.
