So that's not certain? Isn't it something that will change with very small possibilities or the coding of the virus or something?
I realized that you were a little angry with me, so (don't get me wrong) I felt like you said it's not contagious even though it was infected outside of the update so I wouldn't write more. As I said, don't get me wrong, I'm a little obsessed, that's why I'm like this. That's why you didn't write the wrong answer to the question of whether the bios virus is only infected with an update, or because I don't want to write more, right? Like I said, I'm so obsessed with these things. @egydiocoelho
The only way to flash a BIOS with a virus is with a SPI programmer. Any kind of modded BIOS can`t be flashed with the flash utils.
I'm not angry. I just want you to understand, that hardly a virus will infect your computer's bios. In the past, there were some types of viruses that infected the mbr. But not because of that, the computer stopped working. Today, this almost doesn't happen.
Yes, you are correct. However, just erase the bios on the chip and rewrite the bios with the correct file again.
I got it, get well soon :( I read that it can be transmitted in some reliable places, that's why I asked
And for the last time I ask:
A BIOS update is the only way for a BIOS virus to infect the BIOS, right? And isn't that certain? Isn't it something that will change with very small chances or the coding of the BIOS virus or the type of BIOS virus?
No if there is a virus it will not flash as the update utils are checking the hash and if any modifications it will trow an error.
What do you mean no?
So there is no chance of it being infected other than a BIOS update, right? With very small chances, according to the coding of the virus, all known BIOS viruses can be infected with a BIOS update, but 1 of them can be infected without a BIOS update, or all BIOS viruses that we know are infected with a BIOS update, but there are no such things as BIOS viruses that we do not know can be transmitted without a BIOS update, is it DEFINITELY?
Also, after a BIOS virus infects the BIOS itself, it goes from the BIOS to disks etc. a security vulnerability, a backdoor, etc. in the BIOS or device while passing or before or after. Can it infect the BIOS without updating the BIOS by using that vulnerability while leaving and returning again?
Could you explain a little more after the part where you said no? @batmalin
The SPI chip where the BIOS is stored is write protected, the only way to flash/write to it something different than an original BIOS is with a SPI programmer. So there is no way to mod the BIOS with the virus and write it with a update flash utils. Same is valid for any kind of mods including unlocked BIOS and so on. So to recap there is no way to infect your BIOS.
Here, we can infect with things like spi programmer, and we couldn't update the BIOS if the BIOS was unwritable. @batmalin
You will be not able to update if even 1 bit of the BIOS is modified.
Is the system locked so I can't update or change it? And how can it be that I can't change it? @batmalin
Again the BIOS chip is write protected, so you can`t flash non-original (modded/ infected) BIOS
So, is it possible to update with the original BIOS update?
If yes, how does it know if this file is original or not?
Also, I didn't do the update with flash, I updated it by double-clicking on the BIOS file, can the hypothetically transmitted BIOS virus be transmitted like this? You said it cannot be flashed, but I did not use flash, and it may not have been used in the update that infected the bios virus. @batmalin
1. Yes
2. If I knew how it is checking I wouldn`t be using my SPI programmer to flash unlocked BIOS
3. The exe file contains flasher so you are flashing the BIOS with the update.
But can't cheating be done?
For example, it's like a normal BIOS update, but does it contain a backdoor, or maybe there's something wrong with that controlling thing?
Could there be a way to turn this controlling thing off somehow? So, for example, it is not a BIOS virus, but a virus on disks, and can this virus block that controlling thing in the BIOS or can it be turned off from the settings or something? @batmalin
Not heard of such thing but if there is the BIOS mods community would know first. So for now Acer is safe.
But there is still a possibility, right? By the way, I am using PK brand motherboard. In case it helps, a user said that only asus and gigabyte computers have BIOS viruses on their motherboards. Is this true? @batmalin
I don`t know if it is true or not and to be honest I don`t care about other brands.
What are you talking about? What MB ,what computer guy? What do you really want to hear? What is the point of this topic anyway?
No need to philosophize. I was going to ask @egydiocoelho a few more questions and close the issue, but you both came and confused me and you say that you don't care about the brands other than acer.
