Evening everyone,

I want to buy some RAM for my Acer laptop from the official Acer company, but Acer doesn't sell RAM so I need to buy it from a company that's not linked to Acer...

Is it safe for me to give them my SNID of my Acer laptop? I'm worried that I'll be giving them access to my Acer laptop or in some way I'll be comprimising my security? 😥

I've never given my SNID or serial number of my Acer laptop to anyone before.

Can any harm be done if I gave out my SNID or serial number?

Thanks

    Hi,

No, don't give any personal information about the laptop, just give them the full model name, like AN5xx-xx-xxxx., that should be enough.

    Thanks for your reply brummyfan2!

The problem is this non-Acer company asked me for my SNID... I told them the model name like you said but they asked for the SNID.

Yes, they don't need anything other than the full model number. No need for a SN or SNID, which is specific to your physical unit. A SN or SNID doesn't give them any access to your computer though, it just potentially gives them a window into your Acer account or warranty.

  • You can enter the complete model or just the first ten numbers of the partnumber. Example: SF314-54-39BH or 60.GXJN1.001.

OK, memory for any of the SF314-43 models is directly soldered to the motherboard, there are no sockets for expanding memory.

    Thanks for your reply Billsey!

Are you sure about this? Is there any way for me to double check this?

I was really hoping to upgrade this Acer laptop to 16GB of RAM.

Is it possible for me to upgrade anything else in this Acer laptop?

The reason I ask is because the 8GB of RAM is extremely limiting for me...😣

Here's a picture of the motherboard:

The area just above the C connector is the memory, as you can see it's soldered on with no DIMM socket.
