Dedicated gpu not working in Predator Helios 300PH315-51-51V7 (2018 model).

I guess I am unable to use the "Dedicated" gpu of my 2018 Predator Helios 300 PH315-51. Integrated gpu (Intel UHD Graphics 630) is fully functional and working as expected, the problem is, dedicated gpu (Nvidia GTX 1050Ti) neither showing up in task manager nor I am able to harness the power of dedicated gpu no matter how much I load up the laptop with graphical workloads. Someone please help me out. I am sticking some screenshots for reference. (Task manager used to show dedicated gpu as GPU 1 in past, but suddenly ***** happened with it).

    First and if there is no GPU in the Task Manager in Windows 10 or 11, read this guide “Why Is There No GPU In Task Manager” after install either GPU-Z or AIDA64 Extreme or HWiNFO to check your GTX-1050ti GPU’s clock speed and if its working? As there must be something wrong with your Task Manager if your GPU is showing up in Device Manager.

    If all the above doesn’t fix your GPU problems then completely uninstall the NVIDIA drivers including the audio drivers, use the Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.5.4 reboot and don’t install any graphics driver afterwards and allow the default windows driver for the GTX-1050ti to work, then make sure that the last bios update Version: 1.26 on your PH315-51 is installed and all the Windows Updates and Intel drivers are up to date (install the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant for that) to make sure that all the drivers are up to date for your OS.

    Last thing and when the GTX-1050ti is recognised install the latest driver (don’t know which OS you have as this driver is for Notebook Win-10 or 11) its the GeForce Game Ready Driver Version: 516.94 WHQL good luck and hope this helps you out.

    I did tried these solutions, but I cannot see the NVIDIA card in task manager. :(

    I guess there's something to do with windows registries.

    1. What is your full Predator model series number? For example, PH315-51?
    2. What Windows version do you have Win10 or Win11?

    PH315-51-51V7 (Manufactured in 2018 and i5 8th gen processor).

    Currently running on Windows 11 Home (Version 21H2), but the problem started when the laptop had Win10 Home, I thought upgrading to Win11 might solve the issue but it didn't happened at all.

    The GPU hardware seems OK. The latest Win10 ACER OEM driver should've worked fine under Win10, but not Win11. Other users have reported the same issue with the PH315-51, even with the GPU sometimes completely disappearing from Win11 Device Manager.

    Since Win11 ACER OEM drivers have not yet been released, all I can suggest is to first try installing the latest available Win10 OEM driver at this link in Win11's Win10 compatibility mode. If that doesn't work, then I suggest downloading and installing iobit's Driver Booster freeware to see if it can detect and find better Win11 drivers on line.

    It partially worked, I mean the dedicated GPU started showing up and the NVIDIA control panel also opened normally, everything seemed went back to normal, when I used the iobit's Driver update, and updated all the drivers through the application, but after the restart Windows crashed (BSOD appeared) and went into another restart, after the second attempt the windows booted up normally but the dedicated gpu again went into issues so I think there is a suspected driver which is causing windows to get unstable or maybe a (latest) driver is not compatible with other driver (or something like that) what do you think Jack?


    And one thing to note, back to two weeks ago, everything was working fine the nvidia had no issues at all and my games were able to use the dedicated gpu as well, but out of sudden windows crashed (BSOD again!) and after second restart windows started only to notify me that dedicated gpu has went unrecognizable, I updated the driver but misery remained (This all happened on win10).

    Win11 update service has a nasty habit of changing the GPU driver when you're not looking. I suggest re-installing the Win10 driver in Win10 compatiblity mode again. Then make sure System Protection is turned on in Control Panel's restore point app. Nothing else. Then see how long it lasts.

    Still not working, recently I did tried with the same NVIDIA driver my laptop got shipped with, initially it didnt solved the issue, but today I saw the NVIDIA icon in the taskbar tray, but still task manager is not showing GPU 1.

    If it is still not working then we have to do a refresh and reset


    click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started 


    or 


    on start - type here to search - type reset this pc - click on reset this pc on the top - click on get started 


    It will show you keep my files and remove everything

    chose keep my files 

    chose the account - type the password - click on local reinstall - click on reset 

    It will be in progress.. 

    login to computer and start using the computer. 

    If it is still not working 


    click on start - settings - update and security - recovery - reset this pc - get started 

    chose remove everything 

    click on local reinstall - just remove my files - click on reset

    It will be in progress


    Note:


    If you do refresh ( keep my files ) - all your personal files like pictures, music , documents , videos will still be intact.  Only the applications will be lost


    If you do reset ( remove everything ) - you are doing a factory default.  It will become like a day one computer.  It will wipe out everything and take your computer to day one like a new computer. 



    You can also do the recovery in an alternative way..



    There are two alt keys on the keyboard. If you look at the bottom row of keyboard you can see the one on the left side of space bar and the other on the right side of space bar. The alt key on the right side will be looking like alt, alt gr or alt car. Turn off the computer. Hold the alt key on the left and tap f10 continuously.  It will go to repair mode. It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot.  If it is not going to repair mode, turn off the computer. Turn on the computer. Hold the right alt key ( alt gr or alt car or alt ) and then tap f10 continuously. It will go to chose an option continue and troubleshoot..


    It will show you chose an option, continue, troubleshoot

    Go to troubleshoot - click on reset this pc

    click on keep my files ( only applications will be lost )  chose your account and type your password  - click on local reinstall - click on reset

    It will be in progress 


    If the keep my files option is not working 


    Go to troubleshoot - click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – just remove my files – click on reset 

    It will reinstall windows. 


    If the just remove my files is not working.. 


    Go to troubleshoot - click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – Fully clean the drive – click on reset 

    It will reinstall windows. 


    Note: You can also go to chose an option , continue , troubleshoot by holding the alt key + tapping f10 or alt gr + tapping f10 on the keyboard while turning on the computer.  Once you see the troubleshoot option, you can stop tapping the f10 and stop holding the alt key.  Then you can try the keep my files and remove everything ( just remove by files and fully clean the drive ) by following the steps which was mentioned above. 

    Click on "Like" if you find my answer useful

    Where did you get this driver? The original factory versions usually aren't on ACER downloads, only on the hidden factory recovery partition. Did you do a full erase everything ALT+F10 cold boot factory reset, preferrably disconnected from the internet?

    i had tried many times resetting the laptop with both options (keeping my personal and fully erasing) but none worked. I reinstalled windows 10 many times after that clean installed win 11 thinking upgrading windows might solve the problem but no, recently i switched back to windows 10 (clean installed). Still the issue persists. :(

    I found the driver on the Acer's site, just put the serial number of my laptop and it will show all the drivers. correct no?

    How to install the display adapter 


    Try windows x 

    go to device manager 

    expand display adapter

    right click on display driver - uninstall 

    Restart the computer 


    It should work fine.. 


    If it is still not working 

    Uninstall the display adapter from device manager 

    Dont restart the computer. 

    Go to support.acer.com 

    chose your country 

    type snid or chose your model 

    go to drivers 

    Install the display driver 

    Click on "Like" if you find my answer useful

    Sorry no. They are usually the updated ACER drivers. Not the original ACER factory drivers.

    Also if you were connected to the internet when you did the ALT+F10 cold boot factory reset, it's very likely that the factory drivers were overwritten by the automatic Windows update process during the factory reset.

    The best way to do a factory reset is to be disconnected from the internet. Then when the reset process issues a message to connect to the internet or skip update, choose skip update and continue with the factory reset without trying to update.

    After the reset process is complete, then open Control Panel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in left pane. In the box that pops up, make sure System Protection is turned on. Save setting.

    Then check Device Manager for the GPU.

    still not working, seems like i have lost all my hopes on fixing this issue and will continue to use this device without the dedicated gpu, and will try not to purchase Acer laptops again. :(

    As mentioned earlier, a full erase everything ALT+F10 cold boot factory reset while disconnected from the internet is perhaps the best way to rule in or rule out a GPU hardware issue.
