I ve still hadn´t fixed the battery drain issue...i had to delayed it until now because i couldn´t risk the BIOS nor the PC. Right now im testing the uninstall battery drivers method from the device manager. Yesterday it drained 1% over night from 100% to 99%. We will see if it remains at 98-97% tomorrow. How much can i expect for it to drain while off under normal behaviour? 1-2% per night?

Can't tell much from an overnight or day test because you're turning the laptop back on to check the level after only one night being off. A 1-2% per day battery self-discharge rate is not ideal but also not unusual.

A better test would be leaving the 100% charged laptop off and unplugged for a week or two. If it loses 7-14% then it seems to be losing what's expected for battery self discharge. If it loses a lot more than this, it might suggest a partially shorted battery cell.

At this point, a BIOS firmware update is not recommended due to the risks involved.

We are talking there is a BIOS update that recognizes that this particular model drains a lot of battery while off. Being said that, today its at 90% after almost 24hs unplugged. I cant talk yet about a tendency but so far im seing about 5% lost per 24hs without making it reach 100% again. It dropped from 100 to 95, 95 to 90....

thank you for your reply, Jack

OK. Which BIOS version number do you have installed now? As I mentioned last year, the BIOS version 1.09 that addresses the battery issue can be found at this link.

From the BIOS itself i can tell its the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev 5.0. Some time ago i ran a Acer Utility that came pre installed with the laptop called Acer System Health sth like that... this utility detected that my battery was draining and (by its own will) installed me some sort of new BIOS without telling me anything. I remember it restarted itself and entered the BIOS and start updating to a newer Rev than 5.0. I left it like 2hs with coolers full blown and nothing happened. Tired i reset it and the BIOS its the same as the old one. So nothing happened. This was way before a posted here and the battery drain continued.

Today, after being unused and unplugged for 3 days straight, battery is at 78%, so we are looking at a huge battery drain in the last 24hs. From 94% to 78%...

I might tried the BIOS update to the latest one but i need to make sure this are the correct ones and that the system will be installing this correctly and not hanging for 2hs like the last time.

Press WIN+R keys. Enter 'msinfo32'. BIOS version will be listed in right pane of box that pops up. If unsure, please post screenshot of result.

After a week of being off and unplugged, battery is at 66%.

OK. BIOS version 1.09 is supposed to address the battery issue for the E5-473 series. I suggest downloading and installing v1.09 at this link. While the newest update version 1.13 is supposed to incorporate all previous changes including v1.09, it risks adverse side effects for relatively minor performance gains.

Hi Jack, im using the SNID number to find my exact model and it came out to this: https://www.acer.com/ca-en/support?search=52902846734;NX.MXQAL.010;E5-473&filter=global_download

The link you provided i believe to be the same model, but i have my doubts between models E5-473-59Y5 and E5-473G. I believe i have the first one.

    Thanks!

The SNID probably won't work because the laptop is no longer under warranty.

So you must use the link provided for the E5-473G. While no 100% guarantees, it should be the same BIOS updates for the 473 and 473TG.

Besides, there's always a risk in applying any of these BIOS firmware updates. it's the nature of the firmware process. There's an even bigger risk of trying to reverse them if things go wrong. Of if they create side effects even worse than the fast battery drain issue. So you must weigh the risks against trying to fix the battery drain issue or living with the battery drain issue.

If it was mine, I'd probably take the risk and install v1.09 if it was seriously interferring with my ability to use the machine. I probably wouldn't if it was more of an inconvenience or something that simply bothered me. But it's not mine. So you have to make the final decision on whether to risk the update or not.
