Acer Swift 3 SF314-54-39BH Upgrade For Laptop?

Evening everyone,

I have an Acer laptop 14" Swift 3 here that came with 8GB of RAM. 8GB of RAM was enough when I first started using it but Chrome and Edge use up soooooo much RAM.

I just want to know how I can upgrade the RAM to 16GB or more?

I'd be happy to pay Acer the price of the RAM, but I definitely want to do it myself at my home without sending it into Acer.

Is this possible?

Thanks

It depends entirely on which Swift 3 model you have. The model number should be on the same sticker as the SN and SNID and it will look something like SF3xx-xxx-xxxx. Many of these thin and light laptops get their thinness by soldering in the memory though, since sockets take up valuable vertical space. If yours has ram sockets then a memory upgrade is likely well within your skill level, since it mostly involves taking screws out and putting them back in. :)

    Thanks for your reply omeglet!

How hard would it be for me to install extra RAM?

I really want to install the RAM myself and not give my laptop to someone else.

I understand you say "I checked and this is the model of my Acer laptop: "Model Name: SF314-43"

Kindly go through the details which is captured from service manual designed for your computer.

You are using either 8 gb or 16 gb onboard memory on your computer. You cannot add additional memory as there are no slots for it.

I would like to provide some additional info which will really help you.

Ok I did as you said and I downloaded and read the two manuals that are specifically made for my Swift SF314-43.

    The manuals are called:

    User Manual_Acer_1.0_A_A.PDF

    Safety Guide_Acer_2.0_A_A.PDF

However, both manuals do not mention the RAM installed in this Acer Swift SF314-43... :(

Are you sure there is only one RAM slot available to me? If I install CPU-Z as you recommended, would that tell me how many RAM slots I have?

The info were captured from service manual designed for your computer. We have acces to those manuals. The snippets were copied from the the manual which is designed for your computer.

You can still ran the crucial scan and check the memory upgrade.

One of the "benefits" of buying a thin and light laptop is the inability to upgrade memory. As shown in William's first post you have only memory soldered to the motherboard. If it had had a socket, the design would have been thicker to give enough room, so they designed it with only the onboard memory. The only way to change from 8GB to 16GB is a motherboard replacement, or a replacement of the whole laptop.

    Thanks for your reply William!

I'm very nervous about allowing websites to scan my Acer laptop because of security concerns.

However, I looked in Windows 10 Pro's Task Manager under "Memory" and when I hover my mouse cursor over "Slots used" it says "Slot 1: 4GB. Slot 2: 4GB"

It also says "Slots used: 2 of 2"

I'm really saddened to read this about my RAM not being upgradeable... 😥😥😥

It is more the norm than not these days. Not putting a socket or two in saves both on the thickness but on cost.

Thank you for your reply William.

I've read through the "Acer User Manual" PDF file, but I can't find any mention of RAM slots? Where do I find this?

Also, it seems that my Acer laptop is using two 4GB sticks of RAM. Is it possible for me to buy two 8GB sticks of RAM from Acer and install it myself?

I appreciate the idea, but I don't want to use crucial.com as I want to keep my Acer laptop as secure as possible.

There aren't any slots. If you look at the specs William posted:

There are no DIMM sockets, only on board memory.

    Thanks for your reply Billsey!

I had a look at the crucial.com website but I don't like the idea of installing an App from them to do the scan for me.

Realistically, the best I can do is upgrade the SSD right?

My current SSD is a 512GB that it came with.

Would I notice any performance increase from buying a new 1TB SSD?

I'm too nervous to install the Scan App from crucial.com… 😥

What are the best USB hardware accessories I can buy to enhance this Acer laptop?
