Do you mean it's normal at first, then auto-dims a second or two later?

Is the white.jpg being fed to the vg240yp by the HP or the Xbox? Please show the same white.jpg being fed to a TV set instead of the vg240yp if possible.

The Xbox is feeding the jpg and I don’t have a tv spare. The Xbox works fine on the tvs I’ve used recently in the past few months. Is it worth mentioning the monitor only started doing this about 4 months after I brought it ?

Only if you're 100% sure the Xbox worked fine on the TVs after the shadowing started on the monitor.
You see, the problem we have right now is that the monitor seems to work fine when being fed by a Windows PC. But not fine being fed by the Xbox. So the video signal that the Xbox is feeding the monitor is suspect. Do you have a friend with a TV set or monitor that you can test the Xbox video signal output?

I’m sorry if I’m confusing lol I’ll lay everything out best I can:
problem:
monitor has shadowing when connected to both laptop and Xbox.
more than one hdmi has been tried and made sure they are both hdmi 2.0 to match the port.
xbox does not shadow on a tv
I have tried factory resetting the monitor, turning hdr off, trying different settings such as turning freesync off. Nothing has worked.
I have also tried the monitor from a wall plug in case there wasn’t enough power.
it sometimes boots normal then flicks the shadowing on and stays on and other times it boots to the shadowing. The monitor still does this with no Xbox or hdmi connection in.

Monitor when it’s normal and working ^

Ah!!! An intermittent problem then! This is nearly always caused by the LCD cable connector from the screen to the mainboard. Usually starts happening when the environment starts to get warmer and more humid. Probably re-seating it a few times to help clean its contacts inside the connector will resolve the issue.
Is the monitor still under warranty?

Picture of the ports if that helps at all.

If you bought the monitor less than a year ago, it should at least still have an Acer warranty if you don't have an extended Argos warranty as described in this link.
https://www.argos.co.uk/help/argos-care
The problem is if all the ports show the same intermittent shading behavior, then the cables between the monitor screen and the monitor's motherboard needs to be accessed and probably re-seated to help establish better connections that might be causing the intermittent shading behavior.
Accessing there cable requires disassembly. The usually voids the ACER warranty unless done by an Acer authorized repair service. This might in fact be Argos since they offer their own extended service so they apparently have the technical capability.
I think you should first check with Argos at this link to see if you have their extended warranty. If not, then ask them for assistance or information on how best to arrange for Acer warranty service. https://www.argos.co.uk/help/contact-us

I brought it through eBay and it was in January so less than a year ago but when I try to enter the serial number it just says search not found when I search for the warranty

Ebay should be OK unless the vendor wasn't Argos. What did Argos chatline recommend?
This is the ACER warranty link. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support
