Hi I just bought an acer aspire XC-840. When I play games the screen is constantly going blank then will go back to normal, sometimes it goes white and then I can't do anything. Does anyone know how I can fix this as it's so frustrating. Thank u in advance 😆

    Hi @Lisajb

You can try to reinstall the display drivers to check if that makes any difference.

NOTE: Make sure to reboot the computer after uninstalling the driver.

You can also try to reset the BIOS.

How do I reset my BIOS/UEFI to default settings?

    1. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, or until your system shuts completely down.
    2. Power on the system.
    3. Press F9 and then Enter to load the default configuration.
    4. Press F10 and then Enter to save and exit.

Hope it will help you in some way.

Unfortunately I tried the above and its still cutting out all the time, not sure what else to do. It says all my drivers/ software is upto date.

The monitor is only displaying the video signals that PC GPU is feeding it. Sounds like the GPU might be overheating, then throttling off to cool. Then turning back on when temperatures are back to normal until it overheats again.

What kind of PC do you have? A laptop? A desktop? Do you know what GPU it has? For example, an nvidia 1660ti gpu. Or an Intel UHD gpu? Do you have CPU/GPU temperature monitoring capability? There are many freeware temperature monitors if you don't.

The Aspire XC-840 has an integrated cpu/gpu that the cpu is the Pentium® Silver N6005 cpu (base 2.00 GHz and turbo 3.30 GHz max ram of DDR4-LPDDR4x at 16GB) and the gpu is an integrated/Shared Intel® UHD Graphics (Graphics Base Frequency 450 MHz and Graphics Burst Frequency 900 MHz) which are not great specs for playing allot of the latest games and especially todays high end games which could be your problems as you are overstressing the cpu/gpu.

If you want to game this Aspire XC-840 you need dual ram 2x 8GB and also to add a dedicated gpu card that will need a bigger PSU. As with your Aspire XC-840 you have a problems as its only got a propriety inhouse Acer PSU of 65W but has a 1x PCIe x16 for an addition of a gpu card. The OEM Aspire XC-840's PSU can't power a gpu card so you need to upgrade the PSU like fitted to the Aspire XC-710 that will fit and its a PSU type like the; LITE-ON PE-5221-02AB 220W ACTIVE PFC (Acer part #: DC.2201B.00B) that comes OEM with a gpu card of the likes of the NVIDIA GTX745 DDRIII 4GB LP UEF or you can fit other gpu cards that can handle 220W like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, on top of all these upgrades you also need to improve its case and cpu cooling.. This is allot of upgrades and imo it would be cheaper for you to buy a proper gaming PC. Also check your monitor cable and the actual monitor that you are using if there are no issues with those components. Good luck and hope this helps you out and make you aware of what your Aspire XC-840 limits are as its not a gaming desktop.

Thank you for your answers. I thought I had sorted things out, but it appears my issue is back. And it's driving me mad!! I literally switch on my pc and before I can do anything, something simple like checking my emails, the monitor switches off, then comes back on then before I get to do anything it goes off again. I cannot do anything, my old pc was nothing like this and had all the same programmes on it, if not more. It has less memory and runs better than this one, I am seriously regretting buying it.

The GPU, I think, is intel Pentium silver. if that's not it where do I check?

Also i know its not a gaming pc but i cannot even check emails or go online without it switching off.

Do you know the desktop brand and desktop model number? For example, a Dell? An HP? Even and Acer desktop? Does it have a model number?

It just goes into sleep mode now and I can't wake it up. I'm close to throwing the thing out the window lol

I think I worked it out. When I was triple checking the cables, as I was touching the hdmi cable the monitor would come on then say no signal and pop back in sleep mode. I changed the hdmi cable completely and now its working!! It was obviously a dodgy cable they sent me. 🙄

Thanks for reporting back on the fix. Is Argos going to replace it?

I'm not even going to bother asking for a replacement, they are cheap enough to buy. I'm just relieved it's sorted, thank you for your advice 🙏
