Acer Swift SF3 14-43 won't enter sleep mode.

I'm using a Acer Swift SF3 14-43 laptop. I loathe it, but I'm stuck with it. I have a windows 10 installed.

The problem is the Laptop will not enter sleep mode while plugged in. When I close the lid the blue power light stays on. I've tried every fix I could find online. My closing the lid settings are set to sleep. All advanced settings are also correct. The last thing I attempted was to change the Link State Power Management options in Advanced Power Settings to off. But this still had no effect.

On battery, though, the laptop will sleep as normal.

It won't even sleep if I press the power button. I asked microsoft twitter for help, they were helpful but could not fix the issue. I've tried everything I could find on google, so I'm trying here as a last resort.

Any ideas of what I could try that is not the obvious? I fear that it may well be a hardware and not software issue.

If I can't fix this weekend, then this laptop is going back as it's under warranty and I'll never buy or recommend a Acer laptop again. It's been non stop problems with it since I bought it.

    Open Control Panel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in left pane. Click 'change settings that are currently unavailable' Scroll down and uncheck the box for fast startup. Shut down Windows normally. Wait a few minutes. Then turn the laptop back on.

    In that report, shouldn't S3 be set to true and not false?

    If all the options in ControlPanel power button app are set to sleep as shown below, then bring up the screen for Control Panel's edit power plan. Click on advance settings. Please post a screenshot of available options in the box that pops up.

    My options were more limted here then what I saw online. So, I entered safe mode and had more options including turning ' Link State Power Management' to off.

    See, what I mean when I said I've tried everything?! lol

    Edit your power plan. Change all settings to "never" on battery and plugged in. Then shutdown Windows again. Start it up and try it again.

    Did this and still no luck. Interestingly, it did seem to work the first two times that I closed the lid but then back to not switching off. The blue power light still stays on and if a video is playing it will keep playing in the background etc.

    BTW, thanks for all your suggestions. I understand if you give up. I have too lol

    Nope.

    I wonder if it's possible to be hardware fault? You wouldn't think so with a issue like this but you never know.

    Check to make sure the power plan settings and power button behavior hadn't been changed by an errant background Win update while you weren't looking.

    The issue is not annoying enough for me to send laptop back, so I'll just leave it be.

  • I would try to update the drivers with iobit's driverbooster program. This could be a driver related issue as well.

    Yes, I would first try @egydiocoelho 's Driver Booster suggestion. However, the fact that it seems to have worked at least a few times suggests a faulty or intermittent Hall magnetic lid position sensor on the maimboard. In this situation, warranty service might be advisable.
