AN517-54 20% Battery drain overnight

My laptop drains 20% or more in just7-8 hours when it's not plugged in. This is with hibernate, or shutdown.

I just recently disabled fast startup on Windows, but I'm not sure if that will help. Any other ideas? Does this sound normal? And what is it doing with that 20% of the battery exactly?

    Hi @otterslide

it's normal for the laptop battery to drain even while it is shut off.

Many laptops use the Connected Standby feature, and this feature won’t completely turn off your laptop. Instead, it will keep it in a state similar to Sleep Mode and allow you to easily boot your PC and continue where you left off. This is different from Fast Boot, which is a BIOS/UEFI option.

YOu can disable the Connected Standby feature if you wish to.

Note: This solution involves modifying the registry. Since this can be potentially dangerous, it’s advised to create a System Restore point just in case.

    1. Press Windows Key + R and enter regedit. Now press Enter or click OK.
    2. regedit run dialog battery drain
    3. In the left pane go to the following key:
    4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPower
    5. In the right pane, double-click the CsEnabled DWORD.
    6. regedit battery drains laptop
    7. Set the Value Data to 0 and click OK to save changes.
    8. value data battery drain

After doing that, restart your PC and the problem should be permanently resolved. Bear in mind that by disabling this feature you’ll disable the Sleep feature completely, but at least the problem will be resolved.

So, this is not an issue, it is normal. Although this feature can be useful, it will drain your battery even while your laptop is off.
