Acer predator po3-630 set fan speed manually between 1-100%

Hi, my predator pc (po3-630) got three settings for fan speed control in Predator Sense: auto, gaming and manually. With the auto settings it heats up quickly, but stays quiet. Gaming mode is like there is a plane lifting off. And manually seems ok, but i can only change the fan speeds from 60% up to 100%. Is there a way where i can set the fan speeds manually from 1-100% or with a custom fan curve?

Thanks!

I wouldn't try this first, but you should be able to cut down the noise, if this is your main annoyance, by replacing the rear exhaust and front intake fans. I'd recommend using fans made by Noctua, because they come with included low noise adapters (NA-SRC7). If needed, you could use them if you wanted to bring down RPMs and noise even further.

But if you replace your current exhaust and intake fans, then the noisiest part of your system under stress would most likely be the tiny CPU fan. Thankfully this is easy to fix, but would mean more money spent on a decent after market cooler. My reasoning is that a better cooler doesn't have to work as hard to keep the CPU cool. There are many posts about swapping the cooler on these forums.

Personally I would start by cooler swap, and if the case fans were still bothering you, only then replace the rear exhaust.

As far as I know, the rear fan and CPU fan are linked together. When CPU gets hot and needs CPU fan to spin up, so does the rear fan. With after market cooler CPU can easily stay 20 to 30+ degrees cooler under stress, and therefore the rear fan doesn't have to spin so fast and stays quieter.

Usually fixed in BIOS firmware though Smartfan control switch in the BIOS Advanced folder under PC health status may affect this. You can try it on and off to see what happens if anything.

Hi Jack, thank you for helping, but it did not work. I disabled Smart Fan, but it only removes the automatic fan speed function. I still can't set fan speeds 1-100% or even below 60% manually. Also, in Speedfan and Argus Monitor the fans and fan speed do not show up.

Likely the fan isn't designed for those slower speeds and they get erratic when attempting it.

As mentioned earlier, usually fixed in firmware. You could request a mod at bios mods since they cannot be offered in these forums. Sorry.

hmm ok.. will third party fans be able to? So i can possibly upgrade in the future

No. Changing fans usually won't help. You could request a mod at bios mods since they cannot be offered in these forums. But this modding would be risky. Sorry.

Thanks, got the Noctua D9L cooler, so i might upgrade fans or case in the future. Do you know a compatible case? What size is the motherboard? Like mATX or ATX or probably some weird size no one ever uses but prebuild acer pcs :p

There are few discussions about swapping cases, so I would encourage you to search for them. In short, it can be done but it isn't as easy as most think.

Good to hear you have already upgraded your cooler. I did too and used the very same one in my 620! How are the CPU idle/stress temps compared to what they were? If the CPU temp controls rear fan as I think, the only way to make the box quieter is to replace exhaust fan with something less noisy.

At least in my box, the rear and front fans (92mm Predator FrostBlade) had a max RPM of 3000 or even more. They really go Brrr! I replaced both with Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM (14mm thickness), but I suppose regular 25mm fans will fit also. And of course you can use other fans as well, but you need to read few reviews which are good and quiet. Noctuas were good for me, because I don't care about LED bling bling. And because I don't care bling bling, I used metal side panel as well. I prefer to look at my screen and not the insides of my case. ^^

Here's just on post about replacing fans. Just look at the pictures. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/comment/1032258#Comment_1032258

If you have no use for HDD tray, I'd remove it. It is attached by few screws and rivets that you have to drill. If you are good with a Dremel, I would, remove those restrictive metal meshes blocking intake and exhaust fans. I DO NOT recommend you to do this, but if you do, please get a finger guard for the rear fan. Oh, and please ignore the gaping hole on the roof. Adding a 120mm fan didn't help as much as I thought it would.

i think idle temp is between 30-45 and stress is max 65, so pretty nice upgrade. Thanks for the information, i will think about replacing the fans and maybe remove the HDD bay if it isn't too much of a hassle. Cheers ;)

The temps are really good! Now that you have a proper cooler, I think most of the noise is coming from the rear exhaust. Brrr!

I tried undervolting the GPU and it helped alot. Temps went down from 81 to 73/74 C! Wont be needing any new fans soon :)

Thanks for reporting back on undervolting effects on noise. 🙂
