I woke up to find that I can't turn my laptop on. It tries. There's an audible clicking sound when I hold down the power button and the keyboard lights up like it's turning on, but that's as far as it gets before turns off again. For a few minutes it was doing this pattern on its own, so I unplugged it so it wouldn't overheat. Any advice on how to fix this?

Unplug charger. Press and hold power button for about 5 seconds. No LEDs should be lit. Then plug the charger back in. But wait for the battery charge LED to turn from steady orange to steady blue. May take several hours. Only after battery charge LED turns steady blue, try to turn it on again while IMMEDIATELY tapping the F2 key. A BIOS INFORMATION menu should appear. Please post a phone photo of the BIOS INFORMATION page if possible.

Tried this. I couldn't get to the menu, it just shut off again.
  • What is the exact model? Example: PH315-52-58VH. Try resetting the battery: turn off the computer, unplug the power adapter, press the power button for thirty seconds and leave the computer off for half an hour.

    >>>There's an audible clicking sound>>>

Do you know if you have an HDD or SSD boot drive? An HDD boot drive makes this clicking sound when failing. With the laptop unplugged, try to temporarily disconnect the HDD if it has a HDD door on the bottom. If not, the bottom cover must be removed.

It has 2 SSD drives, but no HDD.

I tried reseting the battery. It looks like it successfully reset, but nothing's changed.

Here's an overhead of the hardware. Since purchasing, the only thing I've done is replace a fan (the white one).

Then the fans are the next clicking suspects if no HDD. Maybe drawing too much current if stalled. Temporarily disconnect both fans. Button it back up and see if it stays on.

No. Everything else is the same though.

In case anyone brings it up, I also tried disconnecting the battery and just using the adapter. Same results as above.

To try a narrow this down, the day before this started happening I had updated some non-essential drivers. Had a slight scare the first time it started up after restarting but it worked fine for the rest of the day.

How long are you pressing and holding the power button? Should only be a quick press. If quick press results in same behavior --- kb lights up and then turns off again --- disconnect battery. Then remove RAM modules, both SSDs, wifi card and any externally connected devices like USB mouse, flash drive, etc. Reconnect battery, then button it back up. Plug charger back in. Wait for steady blue charge LED. Then quick press power button to see what happens.

  • Did this issue occur after trying to update the bios?

Mostly quick presses. Removing the components now.

Okay, slight issue. I can't get the leverage to unscrew most of the components.

OK, just wrap screwdriver handle with duct tape, rubber bands, cloth, rubber strips, jar opener pads --- anything handy in the kitchen to increase leverage while pressing down firmly on the PhillipsHead slot so it doesn't slip and wear the slot tangs. Some of these screws might have threads coated with blue loctite glue so they don't easily come loose.

  • Ideally, you would send the laptop in for repair. This technician is very experienced: https://www.youtube.com/c/Electronicsrepairschool
