Last night I updated my Acer Nitro 5 and now it won’t turn on. The fans turn on, the keyboard lights up, and the power and battery lights glow, but my screen doesn’t turn on and it turns off after a few seconds and it keeps doing this. It was working fine before I updated it. Please help.

It’s not the display that’s the issue, the laptop doesn’t stay on, it turns on for a few seconds “turns on” and then turns back off, the fans are the only thing that work for a few seconds. I’ve tried a power reset/battery drain, but my laptop doesn’t have the pin hole. If I leave it on it’s loop of turning on and off it gets hot at the bottom. I’m not sure what the problem is I can’t find an answer anywhere.

Aye, the reason im asking if there is anything on an external display is to see if there are any post codes on it :) it kind of sounds like a corrupt UEFI, dont suppose there are any beeps or anything?

I’ve tried connecting to an external display before, and nothing happens. The only beeps that happen are when I plug in the charger which just lets me know that it’s connected. I disconnected the battery and bios battery for 15 minutes and it did nothing. Was really hoping that would fix it. Also I’ve asked for help else where and though the guy couldn’t help he said it might be a problem with the GPU

I dont think GPU as you would still post, Id lean towards a bad UEFI flash :( will probs need an RMA to re flash the chip . You could try to re flash it yourself via this method :

I’m not sure I understand, how am I supposed to download these files if I can’t turn the laptop on? I’ve also never done something like that before and I don’t understand what the post is saying, can you link a video?

What has been updated? Did windows update try to update this driver?

If yes, as stated earlier, it is very likely that it is a corrupted firmware. What is the exact model? Example: AN515-55-58VH.

I’m not sure what I updated, the notification came up to restart or shutdown so I did. The model number is AN515-57-56fc
  • When you restarted, did an acer logo appear and underneath, a progress bar showing that the bios was being updated? It's an image similar to this one:

I don’t think so.. I’m not entirely sure though, it was quite some time ago. However I did find a video on YouTube with what seems to be the same problem as mine, so I’m gonna try to bios flash it later today.

Can you copy and paste the youtube link? I'm finding that windows update tried to perform a failed bios update.

It seems to be the same issue I’m having if not very very similar, however it’s a different laptop so I’m not sure

I didn’t intend on upgrading the BIOS I’m not sure if I did, I just saw the notification in the bottom right of my laptop that told me the system needed to update and restart so I did that, I left the room for a minute came back and it wouldn’t turn on. I looked at the bios’s for my model and there seems to have been a bios update around the time I updated my laptop (it released 06/05/22 if I’m not mistaken and I updated my laptop around that time)

Unlikely that it was an automatic BIOS firmware update. Optional updates probably would have had to been purposely selected manually for something like that.

    Try this.
    (1) Press and  hold power button till machine shuts.
    (2) Unplug charger. No LEDs should be lit.
    (3) Press and hold power button again for about 10 seconds.
    (4) Plug charger back in. Wait for battery charge LED to turn steady blue
    (5) Press and hold F2 key
    (6) While still holding F2 key, turn the machine on by quick pressing the power button

    What happens?

Nothing happens it just starts the on off loop again, the fans, battery light, power light, and keyboard light turn on, then after a second or two turn off, and then on again, after each time it turns off and on the fans get louder and stay on for longer.

It's overheating. Is it still under warranty?

  • Try resetting the battery: turn off the computer, unplug the power adapter, press the power button for thirty seconds and leave the computer off for half an hour.

I’ve already tried that I’ve also tried removing the battery which didn’t change anything
