I have been using the same set up for 3 years and now my MacBook Air does not recognise the ACER KA251Q monitor.  I have done over one hour troubleshooting with Apple support, including checking and using other cables.  No go.  I do not wish to pay up for another monitor as this one works perfectly fine with my mother's HP laptop.  I'm using Apple OS 12.4 Monterey.  Can anyone help?

Does the MAC recognize a TV set to whatever video output signal (HDMI?) you're using?

Can you still access the OSD menu and set signal input type?

When I open the Display menu (I'm using IOS) It can see the tv screen, when plugged in and doesn't even have the ACER as an option.  I have been using this exact set up for over 4 years.  One day I turn it on and nada...  I tried to download a new driver from ACER and there is no option for an IOS driver which I think really sucks.  No notice no nothing and a perfectly good monitor, which of course no one wants to buy because it is 4 years old and will end up as landfil.

No. I don't mean this external menu. I mean the monitor's own internal on screen display OSD menu. That is the only way you can determine if the monitor's input signal selection type may have inadvertently been changed for example from HDMI signal input to VGA signal or some other video signal type. You then can never access it from the MAC. This can happen sometimes if there is a AC power surge or EMI.
