Predator Triton 300 SE FreezingNitro 7 - AN715-51

Once a day or so, my laptop (less than a month old), will freeze with no response to input. It will simply stay wherever the screen was when it froze, and a hard reboot is needed to get it started again. After a reboot it works fine. I am connected to an external monitor if that makes any difference.

    1. Were you doing something when this freeze up occurs?
    2. Does it occur if system is left idle for a while?

It has happened at various times. Multiple times while playing a game, once while in the process of launching a game, and at least twice while using google chrome.

I have not seen it happen while the system is idle, but I don't often leave it idle for long without either putting it to sleep, hibernating, or shutting down.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but it seems to mostly happen after the computer has been started from a complete shutdown, and not when it has been woken up from sleep or hibernate. But there is no consistent timing on it. It has happened as quickly as a few minutes after startup, and at least as late 30 minutes after startup. Hope this info is helpful.

Update: It happened again this morning, about half an hour after waking the computer up from hibernation. It happened while playing game, and although the screen was frozen, the game's music continued to play, so audio is still working.

I did a fresh install of Windows this morning, and after getting everything set up again, it still happens. This time it happened while trying to unlock the computer.

    Hi @skyelanders,

Did you try to update display drivers.

I had the same issue with mine ( Acer Predator Triton 300 SE (PT314-51s-58AR) ). I factory reset it and updated display drivers about 2 days ago and haven't had issues since, fingers crossed.

If fast startup is turn on, try turning it off. Is your Windows present on a SSD or HDD?
Also, the next time it happens, check the RAM utilization. What is the amount of RAM on your laptop? If the RAM utilization is at 95% plus for long periods, it could be that the system is getting slowing trying to swap the data between RAM and disk.

Replying to dead threads (this one is over 6 months old) wouldn't help get answers, open a new one.

Had the laptop since 2022 Jan. Changed motherboard twice due to display card issues. Come back still having freeze quite occasionally. Mine is common to have it after resumming from hibernate.
Looks likely there are issues from some kinds of drivers. Nvidia does get the update often, but just soso, not sure if the issue has been corrected.

I just got my Acer PT314-51S ( RTX 3050 Ti) and I have some issues with this new laptop.

First run on right Temperatures. standard tasks like browsing 70~80C and playing Hitman like 92 with high Noise. ( Idle 60C).

Second, like mensioned here, sometimes it freezes for no reason and I have to reboot. Happens after I leave the room for 5 min and when I come back, it's frozen. Or in the middle of a task. Hard to find the root cause.

Now, I'm seeing some artefacts right after boot up and waiting for Apps to boot up ( small artefact close to mouse pointing logo). Hope is not a dead processor or memory! And when watching some youtube videos, the images or things starts to "walk" the display. Getting all crazy. If I reboot it comes back, but after some time starts again.

Hope if dies, does in whyle in warranty!!

    :(

    Thanks for your feedback!

I agree but if I send to ACER, most likelly the problem will not happen while in there, and they will say it's all fine and return to me.

Second, I live in Brazil and boutght in USA (Best Buy), so for me to send for analysis in USA will give me a big headache to say the least. I don't believe ACER supports this laptop in Brazil for warranty, so again, I'll be stuck in USA customer support.

I tried to run some Memory tests and some CPU tests. All seems fine. I'll monitor for more time and if goes bad, try to install Windows from factory and check if problem continues. If yes, and within warranty I'll check how to send for assistance.

    Regards,

  • @Kmk007 and @LukaMyles Is your model the Predator PT314-51s? If this is the model, check this bios version: BIOS Acer1. Optimized thermal parameter for system stability. 2. Update LED flash behavior. 1.1013.2 MB2021/12/23 download

I just had this issue, left it frozen for a few minutes and it eventually bluescreened with error code “DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE”. I’ve only had this happen when trying to switch windows.

    Tinkerer

FIX: This was happening to me as well, basically every day, sometimes several times a day. I tinkered with RAM/Memory allocation settings, and now it happens extremely rarely. By rarely, I mean about once every 3 to 4 months, if even that. It seems to be a Virtual Memory problem by the looks of it.

Solution (Predator PT314-51s — Windows 11): Go to System Settings. Scroll the to the very bottom. Click on "About". Scroll slightly below to find "Related Links". Then click on "Advanced System Settings." Click on the "Advanced" Tab. Click on "Settings" under Performance. Click once again on "Advanced" Tab. Click on "Virtual Memory". This is what you need to write:

(Yes, this is a precise calculation based on the Hardware):

Click on "Custom Size": Initial Size should be 24576 MB

Maximum Size should be: 49152 MB

Thus, make sure above it reads: Drive Volume Label — Paging File Size (MB) 24576-49152

    Click OK.

After This adjustment was made, I went from crashing/freezing every half an hour or so, to once every 4 months or so. It is still annoying when that happens, and I am sure the memory adjustments can be tinkered with more…But that is the resource allocation you need to calculate for the system. This means that in ideal circumstances, your hard disk drive should have about 100 GB free space, both for the virtual memory and to store new files. Thus, about 800 to 900 GB can be used for games or whatever. But I noticed that I was not receiving any crashes at all, until my Disk Drive only had about 10 GB left. With such a large amount of Virtual Memory, you need to free up Hard Disk space. But even then, it happens extremely rarely.

Hopefully this helps all of you out.

Normally virtual memory is told to be set at 1.5 times the size of ram (this was set cos like 2 decades ago RAM wasn't large enough and even if it was it was too costly), but now a days this isn't really needed most of the time. Check your RAM usage; if you are frequently hitting 85% of its limit, increase RAM. If it is occasional, set your virtual memory at min and max at 8192 MB.

For example, my laptop has 32 GB of RAM and i hit like 70% at peak usage, and my virtual memory is set at 8192 min and max.
