    >>>It's just too long a story.>>>

That's OK. Just omit the boring details. We only wanna hear about the juicy parts to the long story.  :)

Yeah, if the drive has been encrypted with BitLocker you won't be able to recover the files without the encryption key. That is kind of the point of encrypting them, after all...

Well, I installed Win 10 32 bit and when it booted and started the setup process, the touch screen, keyboard and touch pad are not working.
I attached an external USB keyboard at the port on the keyboard and that worked.
I'm now ready to set it all up.

Install the Platform Drivers package first.

    You have my full attention.
I have the Platform drivers from Acer.

It's on the thumb drive that I used to install Windows 10.
    How do I do that?

Unzip the Platform Drivers_Acer_1.10_W81x86W10x86_A.zip file. Then look for a setup.exe in one of the unzipped subfolder to install it.

    Thanks.
    All done.
Of course, when I asked the question, the laptop was not booting.
So I could not imagine how to install a driver.
Now that I have completed the Windows 10 32 bit install and finished setting it up, it’s not a problem to install drivers and apps.
I did have a problem with one unknown device that I just could not solve.
I installed “Driver Booster” and it found an unknown device and I just let it download a driver and install.
Now there is no Unknown Device in Device Manager.
I still do not know what device it is.
I passed on all the other suggested updates.

I’ll just install stuff like Libre Office, VLC and Acrobat Reader etc.

You are likely safe to go ahead and do updates, just clean out the SoftwareDistribution folders after a while. You can do that with Disk Cleanup, just ask it to also cleanup system files.

    Thanks for all the help.
It's been harder than I first hoped.
I would like to mark this solved.

If there is no unknown device, then why do you still seem concerned?
