ELAN touchpad lags at random times.- Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52

Hi,

I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52 (GTX 1050 4GB / Intel Core i5 8th Gen / 1TB HDD) model. I've had this laptop for almost 6 months now and recently for some unknown reason - unprovoked, the trackpad will have roughly two seconds of lag, causing an uncomfortable experience.

This happens on and off for various amounts of times. However, this does NOT happen when I plug in a mouse.

I have tried to update the mouse driver but nothing has changed.

Support on this issue would be widely appreciated.

    Hey everyone,

Just popping in as this thread is old but i've noticed this issue doesn't just happen on my nitro touchpad, but has happened a few times to my lenovo thinkpad. This is definitely a driver issue with windows 10 and not related to hardware.

However, I have noticed that the issue can sometimes be fixed similar to the fn-7 (disabling and re-enabling touchpad) by unplugging and re-plugging in the power cable.

    Good night ShaneSimpkin !

Check your Bios if there is a touch option and whether it is checked for basic or advanced.

    Hi,

I have checked the Bios and can confirm that it is checked as Advanced.

I would like to add a development in the matter. By turning off and on the trackpad using the FN keys (FN + F7) It resets the trackpad and removes the lag for a random number of time, but I would like to know why this happens.

Does this problem only occur on the battery or plugged into the power outlet as well?
Is your device set to high performance in windows power options?
Your system uses the Realtek HD Audio driver?

    Hi Everyone,

So as far as I am aware, the problem occures at almost any point on battery or plugged in.

I did see the solution of the Realtek driver and installed a new update for it that I saw on the solution thread previously.

I do not use linux, I use Windows 10 Home which was the operating system that was bundled with the laptop :)

I again want to point out that for some reason by turning the mousepad on and off with the FN keys fixes the issue until I need to do it again, which is quite bizzare.
  • Have you checked if changing the touchpad to basic in bios, if the problem remains?

I've had this issue since I got this laptop out of the box.  All the info previously mentioned seems to be true for me.  It's definitely happening to frequently for fn-7 to be any real solution.

Once again, this happens way too often for fn-7 to be a real solution.  This issue NEEDS to be addressed.  Please don't accept that as the solution to this problem.

Another Nitro 5 with the same problem (AN515-54), Elan touchpad drivers.

I've noticed that the issue with touchpad lag happens less frequently when it's connected directly to the power outlet than when it's connected to an extension cord.
I don't think the issue ever happened when it's on battery.

It might be cause you plugged you laptop into a power source providing large outputs of current mainly intented for use with refrigerators, air conditioners etc..
Switching to a normal power source solved the problem for me .

The pic above shows the plug i had the problem with and the pic belows shows the plug which fixed the problem for me.

Changing the Driver of the touchpad to generic Microsoft Driver fixed the issue for me,

To change the driver from ELAN I2C driver to HID-Compliant Device just go to device manager and select your touchpad (ELAN I2C) and right click on it and click update>Browse my computer for drivers>Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer>select HID-Compliant and hit apply.

Restart the PC and the issue should be fixed now
