So in these few days, I have had problem booting up my Acer Predator 17 (G9-792-78LB) due to error code 0xc0000098 BCD file not found. But for the mentioned problem, I managed to force rebuild a BCD file for boot but I know its because 1 of the SSD in the RAID0 has failed but I have difficulty identifying which one even after physically dissembling the laptop itself and taking picture of the serial number (the serial number although distinct for 2 of the SSD but it just doesn't match what is shown in the Intel Rapid Storage lol). Unfortunately, the OS is in this RAID0 and I am not sure how to proceed.

Before we go deep, I'm just gonna mention I also have another 500gb SATA 2.5 SSD (D:) that has 235gb left for use while the RAID0 array has 180gb worth of data.

I am planning to get the Samsung 970 Evo Plus to replace this array (removing the 2 factory SSD for this 1), and again I am not sure how should I proceed. Should I backup all the backup-able data from this array to a removable hard disk/ the D drive then just install the new NVMe SSD and format the 2 old ones and see which one is salvageable? Can I also simply transfer the OS from C to D and boot temporarily until I install the NVMe then transfer the OS to NVMe (the new C)? Please advise me if otherwise.

If a drive is dead on a raid0 all the data is gone without the chance of recovery, as bit by bit the data is across the two drives, if the raid array is still showing and data is accessible at least the drive isnt dead!

From memory i think those models auto try to raid0 the two slots if both are in at the same time, your first option of copying what you can, and then swapping drives. Copying the OS isnt as easy as the drive needs to be set as bootable , and it may be better instead to just either install onto a drive in a new partition, or just straight onto the new ssd's and just temporarly use a live boot usb untill they arive

I would assume the drive is not dead just maybe some part of it as I am still booting from raid0, so I would just copy everything I want to keep at D drive then swap the new SSD into the C drive, but would the raid0 cause any problem at all? I mean now that I am using a single drive at C, is there any further action I need to take on this raid0 matter?

And apart from it, what do you mean by set as bootable? Do I have to do that if I plan to do a fresh install on the new C drive? And in my situation, how would you recommend to proceed with the windows 10 OS installation?

Thanks for the feedback but I require further guidance.

If its still booting it cant have died :) , could be on its way out though losing boot config is odd to say the least, sounds more like an OS / virus issue as if some of the nand was dead all the data would have gone, unless its only a tiny bit

Raid 0 is risky, you may be better setting up on drive rather than on the two, just dump the data you can and rebuild on a new drive or drive pair :)

The boot flag is set on the install of the os, was just a warning that if you copy and paste the windows folder it wont be able to just boot tis all :), if you run through the install it should be all good

Well the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application is alerting me that one of the raid0 SSD has failed as shown in the screenshots below:

And I actually agree with what you said so I have created an image of the raid 0 at an external HDD but now I'm stumbling upon a few other issue, like where can I get back the factory Acer software? As I searched in Acer website, there are no compatible software (Acer Care Centre) for download. I am afraid once I start using the new drive I will run into issue.

  • Hi! I advise checking the health of both drives with the crystaldiskinfo program. That program whether the drives are failing or not. As you are able to access windows, it is important to back up your files. You can also create an operating system backup here, from the control panel:
Como criar e usar uma unidade de recuperao ou disco de reparo do sistema no Windows 8 ou 10 - Howpedia
You can also try to remove the raid with these commands:
    diskpart
    list vol
    sel vol x
    delete volume

But it is necessary to back up the files.

That is odd! It must be a pre fail warning or something, which software are you looking for :) you can usually grab them from the support site for the model under applications

In response to egy's suggestion, here is what I get from the crystaldiskinfo:

Apparently both the SSD in raid0 is in good condition as indicated by this software.
But Intel Rapid Storage Technology says otherwise (please refer to screenshots above for this).

And also, for the recovery drive recommendation, here is what I get:

So I am getting confusing info from Intel Rapid Storage Technology and crystaldiskinfo software, which info should I accept?
And about the software, maybe for a starter, the Acer Care Center? I searched on Acer website for my laptop model G9-792 and there are no compatible one for that.
  • Can you send some pics of the bios info and main tabs?

Can you guide me on how to find that info? So that I can give you what you actually wanted.

Press f2 before the acer logo. Then upload a photo of these tabs:
