I have an Acer Aspire 5733z laptop equipped with 2gb ddr3 ram, intel p6200 processor, it's socket type is 989 rPGA with HM55 chipset. Can I install a Intel core i7-640m processor which is compatible by all means with this laptop? Also what do I have to do after installing it in the laptop?

    Good evening jbn_buffy !

Upgrading of processors in laptops is one of the less recommended procedures.
Even if your system allows, there are still several errors that can occur (and almost always occur), such as "restart 30 to 30" (system reboots alone after 30 minutes), overheating (in this case i7 has higher TDP), driver incompatibility, driver errors, lack of support due to new demand on the part of the battery and the charger, among others.

I too have an Acer Aspire 5733z...which I am using to comment on your post.  I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and also wanted to upgrade just for kicks. After a little research I wound up installing an i5 480m @ 2.67Ghz.  While at it, upgraded to 8gb (2x4) of G.Skill DDR3 1066.  While I was in there I also did some house keeping especially with the cooling, considering it would prob run a bit hotter, which is does but not much.  I also upgraded the bios to V 1.10.  All said and done, fired her up and she has been running great ever since.  Good luck if you ever see this.
