I downloaded the most recent version of BIOS (2.14) from the support page on Acer. There is an executable file in the zipfile. I am not sure if I should run the file inder Windows, under DOS, or in safe mode... How?

This computer came with BIOS version 2.09.

Please, would somebody tell me how to do this upgrade without crashing my computer forever? thanks.

Just run executable on windows, the pc must be connecting on external aimentation.

For infmation the Bios 2.14 is not the latest, 2.15 exist but this version seem not perfect for the moment. 2.14 is ok in my computer.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel that you need to update your BIOS to a later version?

Unless you have a specific problem, I suggest that you leave well enough alone.

I am having a lot of issues with this new computer (I have detailed them in some other posts) and I read elsewhere that maybe I had to update the BIOS if upgrading the drivers didn´t fix the problems (which they didn´t). The random freezing that my S3 experiences most frequently than desired could be related to the BIOS if updating the VGA drivers don´t fix the problem.

Guess that everybody knows how to do this, well I don´t. It is an honest question and I wanted to know how to do it.

There is no indication anywhere of how to proceed to do this for this computer (there are posts in the knowledge base for updating using WinPhlash and for other models, but I wonder if it is the same for this one. Just in case, before doing something wrong, I asked - don´t think there is anything wrong in asking).

    mood8moody,

I cannot just run the executable on Windows. There is a screen appearing saying that "Windows smart screen prevents from running the application".  I click on "accept" and the exe doesn´t run.

I was concerned that this wasn´t the right way for updating the BIOS, that´s why I asked in the first place.

(2.14 is the latest version available in the support page, I didn´t know there existed 2.15)

ok, I did not see that your pc was a s3. What is the full name of the executable file?

The file with the BIOS is HB2V214.exe

In your download section they are many bios executable if you click the button "all".

I see bios 1.15 to 1.26 (6mb) and 2.09 to 2.14 (4,3mb). Bios 1.xx have a dos flash exe and windows flash exe. Bios 2.xx just have windows flash exe.

Maybe try flash on windows safe mode, or shutdown the user control acount in windows before flash

I can see v2.09 to 2.14 only, but I enter the spanish version because I have "Windows 8 - only language" in spanish.

All files are the same as I have, an executable file with the same name ending with the version number...
