Hi,
There are no free version of Microsoft Office, you can buy subscription based Office or one time purchase, if you buy subscription based Office you have to renew the subscription, if you buy One-time purchase Office, you can use for lifetime and don't have to pay anymore but may be asked for payment for any updates.

Typically new systems are bundled with a short duration trial of Office, 30 days or so. Some come with 1 year of Office, but none that I know of provide lifetime access.
