Won't power up

I have a 5733 that is less than 2yrs old. I cam home from shopping to power up the laptop. I had left plugged in to charge. Now when I press power, the fan comes on for a brief moment then shuts off. I can hear it trying, but then it shuts off, and 10 secs later it repeats the process. When I unplugged the power cord the laptop did seem very warm if not hot. Has never acted like this before. I have left it plugged in with no problems until now. Been nearly 2hrs., could the CPU still be too hot, or do I have some other problem. I think I may have accidentally blocked the air intake before.
