I have an acer predator triton 500 (pt515-51), and I tried to create a bootable usb using rufus. In the bios I did set up a password and disabled secure boot, but no matter how I configure my usb drive in rufus, I cannot see anything other than the windows boot manager in the boot menu.

no, but it shows up in rufus/windows
also, if you have any alternate way of installing another OS without needing to go through this, Id really appreciate if you shared it
I do have an empty 1tb ssd installed besides the one that shipped with the machine
  • Configure the usb stick manually, via powershell as administrator:
    diskpart
    list disk
    sel disk x
    clean
    convert gpt
    create partition primary
    format fs=fat32 quick
    assign

Then extract the OS iso to the root of the usb stick.

  • Have you used another usb stick and tried connecting to another usb port?

ngad just to point that you need to do that in a 16gb usb drive (i recommend sandisk the cruzer force are really good and cheap) less than that and more will possibly create issues also last resort use windows media creation tool (if its windows youre trying to install) good luck

You wrote that Windows\Rufus detects the USB drive is that on the same machine? The reason I ask is that there are USB2.0 and USB3.01 drives likewise different USB ports on laptops, make sure you have it in a compatible port and leave Secure Boot enabled in BIOS. Can you boot with a Windows recovery USB2.0 Flash Drive (10GB, Fat32): Make one in Windows (same machine/Windows verssion) and see if you can boot with that stick in the USB2.0 port and shutdown your laptop completely between boots.
