I have been facing this problem and searched for soo many solutions, but still cannot resolve the problem. I am using my Predator laptop with the spec of I7 8th gen, 12GB ram, RTX2070 Max-Q, Window 10 OS. I am currently using thunderbolt and HDMI output to my 2k 32inches monitor, but I am facing screen freezing problem... I feel so upset...is that my laptop's specs couldnt support the method of gaming? Could someone please help me to solve the problem? Much appreaciated if someone could help me out.

    (1) How quickly does it freeze? Right away? After a few seconds? After a few minutes?
    (2) Does the exact same game freeze on the laptop screen alone?

I understand you are using Predator laptop with the spec of I7 8th gen, 12GB ram, RTX2070 Max-Q, Window 10

It is really a very good spec.    It should work on the external monitor.

Was it working fine earlier with the external monitor ?

Did you tried with an alternative display cable between computer and external monitor ?

Did you tried this computer with an alternative external monitor  ?

    Hello Jack,
    1) When I run gaming applications for awhile, then the display becomes freeze, would be responding again for few seconds later. But sometimes would became lagging then blue screen directly after the freezing problem occurs.

    2) Mostly Dota 2, I tried other games, sometimes it does freezing too. Laptop screen wouldnt freeze if I didnt attach to external 2k monitor.

Try this first. Alternately vacuum the air intake ports (fan blades visible) and blow air through the air exhaust(fan blades not visible) to try to dislodge any accumulated dust & debris that may be blocking cooling air flow. Overheating can cause screen freezing like this.

If it improves and reduces freezing, you might want to consider replacing the thermal paste between the CPU/GPU and heat sink since it dries out over time and causing overheating and freezing behavior. Re-pasting should be done every year or so with heavy gaming and should be consider routine maintenance.

But Ist even though I did monitor the temperature from Predator sense, the temperature of CPU is not over 90°c and GPU not over 70°c, I also need to assume that is temperature problem?

Temperature spikes may exceed monitor sample or average temperatures. Vacuuming & blowing air in the vents is easy to do, does no harm and may reduce freezing. Try it.

Here are some tips you can also try to prevent freezing.

Alright, I will try to do that. Should it required any tools to do the vacuum??

No special tools. Vacuum fan intake vents. Blow air into exhaust vents.

Here are some tips you can also try to prevent freezing.
