Hello,
I am experiencing a issue with my laptop (M/N: SF114-32) where it doesn’t boot up. Essentially, as soon as I turn it on the Acer logo pops up and then displays the message “No Bootable Device”. I’ve looked at my BIOS setting but I can’t find any relating to my problem. I’ve also opened up my laptop and disconnected and reconnected my Hard Drive but nothing happened. How do I fix it?

Likely the drive has died or is corrupted. As suggested use a Windows install flash drive to diagnose and repair. You will need to disable Secure Boot and enable the F12 Boot Menu. Needless to say the video has instructions that are different in modern systems, such as using a DVD to boot from instead of a flash drive. You might have to select a different disk than 0 in diskpart if the flash drive or another drive is in the 0 slot. What is displayed in the video is for an old system using a legacy boot environment, so your partitions will be quite a bit different... For the second try don't select legacy, you need UEFI.

I created a Windows install flash drive and disabled Secure Boot but the drive is not popping up underneath “Boot Priority Order”. It still says “No Bootable Device” when I try to boot up

It won't show up there, it should appear in the F12 boot menu though.

Did you try to boot your install flash disk using the F12 boot menu?

    @billsey

I have booted my laptop using a Windows Install flash drive. However, start up repair was not able to fix the problem I was having. I also tried to install windows but it was unsuccessful and said it couldn’t because the “Hard disk may fail soon”. I ran a command prompt to “clean” the disk but it still don’t work and I also tried to delete my most recent updates through advanced settings but nothing happened. When I tried to install windows using the recommended option it said to remove the installation media and let the computer boot normally. But this only made the “No bootable device error” pop up again. The Hard drive is not popping up on my BIOS or Boot Menu settings either still.

@GruffCheetah if the drive info does not show in the BIOS, it is likely that the hard drive has failed.

The "Hard disk may fail soon" message says it is seeing errors in the SMART tests and the drive is either on it's way out or has failed. What size drive is in it? If it is a 64GB drive then it's an eMMC drive soldered to the motherboard and not really replaceable, but you can still put a drive in the M.2 slot and boot from that. If it's a larger drive then it's in the M.2 slot and can be replaced fairly easily. Either way unless you have a current backup you will be doing a reinstall of the OS and any personal data stored on the failed drive is gone.

I’m planning on buying a new hard drive for my laptop. I opened up my laptop and discovered I currently have the SK hynix SC311 128GB. I’ve looked online and have been recommended the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB M.2. I’m pretty sure it should be compatible with my device. But I’d appreciate it if anyone knew if it was 100% compatible.

@GruffCheetah this model might support M.2 SATA only. Using NVMe won't recognize it.

Your system supports both SATA and NVMe drives in that M.2 slot, and the NVMe can be either x2 or x4. The Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe is a great choice, but I'd lean toward the 500GB since it is only a few dollars more than the 250GB ($64.99 vs $52.99 MSRP).

Are you sure, because, on the Acer website Specifications tab, it says the SSD interface is Serial ATA/600.

I have jut bought and installed the new hard drive - Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB M.2. However, my computer isn’t recognising it at all - in BIOS settings and Startup.

@GruffCheetah then you will need to try the M.2 SATA instead.

As I stated in your other thread (it gets confusing when you post to multiple threads with the same info) you need to iRST drivers.

Very useful thread - my SF114-32 with the same M.2 just went thru the same pains - BSOD, drive shows up in BIOS but no boot device found.
I put the M.2 in a Linux desktop, the SMART status shows as failed, the entire SSD reads as blank.

I'm not very impressed, I thought that SSDs were supposed to be more reliable than HDDs... 3 years for a lightly used laptop is too short.  Acer and Currys both entirely uninterested in any sort of assistance.

Replaced it with a WD Blue M.2 SATA, hopefully that will last a bit longer!

And don't forget to back it up...

The problem has now been resolved. I ended up exchanging the Samsung NVMe Hard drive for a Lexar SATA M.2 Hard drive. It looks like my laptop just required a SATA hard drive. It working and functionally properly now.

Thank you everyone for the help.
