Broken screen? Acer Aspire E5-521-475B

Hi, I have an Acer Aspire laptop that I accidentally dropped and now my screen stopped working. I know the rest of the laptop still works because I took it apart, disconnected the screen connector (for some reason the VGA connector does not work if it is connected?) and connected a monitor to the VGA port. The backlight still works (the screen lights up when the laptop turns on), but the pixels just stay black.
Is this something I can fix or do I just need to order a new screen? If so, how would I go about that?

First, it might be helpful if you can reveal your full ACER model number. There a hundreds of different Acer Aspire laptop models. For example, A515-54? Or may Aspire 5435?

    >>>the VGA connector does not work if it is connected?) and connected a monitor to the VGA port>>>

What do you see on the VGA monitor? Press FN+F5 to try to turn the VGA monitor on. Is it a black screen. A blank white screen? Anything at all?

When the VGA monitor is connected everything just works. BIOS, Windows, etc just work in correct colors

If the screen doesn't have any cracks and still has a backlight, it's possible that a new video cable will fix the problem. Fairly inexpensive. Worth a try. Google search e5-521 & video cable for vendors who ship to your location. Less than about $15usd
