PH315-52 GPU jumps and stays at 100% usage, bad performance

I have the 2060, i5 10300h version of Helios. After 20 mins of gaming, the GPU usage jumps to 100% and the performance is drastically reduced, with Dark Souls 3 jumping from super smooth to 25 fps. It stays like that until I close the game and wait for 5 mins. MSI Afterburner shows that GPU jumps from 1850MHz to 1000, and temps are at 82 degree when the problem happens.
Any idea what's causing this?? Only started after a year of usage.

I'm having the exact same issues.

The last few months it'd go from super smooth in any game to maybe 3-5 secs of 20fps before reverting to normal.

Playing Destiny 2 now I'd go from 100fps ultra to about 15fps, happened 3x in one session and seemed to be triggered by a lot of explosions going off at once.

Made sure on Nvidia program settings that Destiny 2 is set to using dedicated GPU, it solved it for about 15 mins then the problem happened again and went smooth again after another 10 mins.

Its bizarre and can't figure out why

I just re-enabled Intel graphics command now realising it wasn't starting up, but I don't think that's the issue here.

Other users have reported a similar trigger that may be related to a failing RAM module. If you have more than one module installed, might want try running on one and then the other. What temps are you seeing when this happens?

I think its a GPU issue, this is the moment just now when my game dropped and capped at around 20fps, temp started to drop? But it was still running properly and not moving to the integrated GPU which is what I thought it was at first... made sure the games run dedicated GPU via the Nvidia control panel settings

At a bit of a loss here.

Try running on one RAM module. Then the other by itself.

Any idea on how to do this? Can't find any info that doesn't involve tearing a module out of my laptop, and I'd rather not as I have warranty as back-up in case I can't solve it.

I did just run MemoryDiagnostics on the RAM, and the results came back as they're functioning fine?

Sorry no, this could be a RAM module timing mismatch or bad module that won't always show up with software tests. Since some mainboards came with only one RAM socket, you could sorta rule out a module mismatch by determining how many RAM sockets you have. Open TaskManager Performance tab and check memory.

Showing how many memory slots are used

I see, just checked and I have 2 module slots. Keeping the tab open to check for any abnormal readings next time I get a framerate drop

Most games the drop lasts a few seconds tops... But Destiny 2 it goes on for ages then randomly resolves itself

Unlikely that you'll catch anything abnormal using TaskManager diagnostics either if it starts throttling. Software diagnostics just aren't fast to catch glitches like this.
