I have been seeing some conflicting info online about the capabilities of the USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 port on the

Predator PH315-54-760S.

I simply want to confirm if this port will both provide power and a display signal to a portable external monitor that also has a USB-C port.

Thanks.

Just as an addition, the PH315-54’s manual shows and states this:

    USB Type-C information

    • USB 3.2 Gen 2 with transfer speeds up to 10 Gbps.

    • Supports DisplayPort™ audio/video output.

    • Compatible with Thunderbolt™ 4.

    • Delivers up to 3 A at 5 V DC for USB charging.

It should have displayport, the support site suggests it does (page 18 o the manual) but if you check the manual which came on the box it should have a listing of everything it supports just to be sure :)

This is the quote on Amazon...
    • Ports For All Accessories: USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (Thunderbolt 4 and USB Charging), 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Power-off Charging), HDMI 2.1 with HDCP support, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, Headphone/Speaker/Line-out Jack, Ethernet (RJ-45), DC-in for AC Adapter

I was under impression that Thunderbolt 4 provides power and display signal but I have seen others say different things. Would love to hear from the manufacturer or an owner.

It can do but it's not on every port , it depends if it's connected and it varies if it's connected to the igpu or dgpu,

Looking in the service guide it should really be supported in every SKU as there is only a single USBC line , with no exceptions

It doesn't suggest what gpu it is connected to though . Looking at the block diagram I would hazard a guess at the igpu not the Nvidia card, and Jarrod's great review suggests that as well :)

@Leostat     I did buy the laptop this week.  I have a portable monitor hooked up to it now, but the USBC is only providing power to the external monitor, no video signal.  I opened up the Thunderbolt Control Center and it is not showing that any devices are connected.  Not sure what to make of all this.  The only way I can use the monitor is to have the USBC powering the monitor and then have a hdmi cable going to the monitor as well.

Im pretty disappointed with this as it is taking up the hdmi port which I would like to use for and additional monitor, not mention it just makes more wires and clutter.

I did download and install the Thunderbolt driver and utility from the Acer website, so I dont think its a driver issue.

If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears.  Thanks anyway for the previous video, its pretty insightful.. kinda wish I would've seen it before buying
    this one...lol.

Generally it wouldnt show in there as the USB-C video is a werid alt mode thing which isnt part of thunderbolt per say, so it doesnt need to negotiate a thunderbolt connection.

Whats the monitor you have connected?

in theory, it should show as any other DP display, so it may have to be plugged in on boot, but after that it should appear in either displays or be available in the windows +p charm menu

I just tried to restart laptop with it plugged in, but the usbc simply gives it power. The monitor has a 'no cable' message. its not getting a video signal.  is there some setting to enable the video output through my USB-C ?

Thanks for posting this. This info I saw on product page is why I purchased this laptop.  Can you think of any setting or driver that might be a problem why the display signal isn't going through?  My monitor is here, it is a generic model but clearly states that it supports display over USBC.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TWGBG3P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

...so frustrated. Im about to send this laptop back.

Using the USB cable which came with it? that one should be just plug and play. To discount the cable and monitor, do you have a phone with USB-C on the bottom or something to drive the display with HDMI?

So I contacted the monitor company and they sent me their USB C cable that does power and video ...   Done.

That's what the problem was the whole time, the replacement USB C cable I purchased didn't seem to have video capabilities.

This one little cable gets to replace all this.
