Sound out issue with Acer Swift 3

The headphone jack on my laptop has stopped working correctly.  Normally, when plugging in a wire I'll get a popup asking what type of device has been plugged in.  I typically use either headphones or speakers.  If I choose headphones the computer acts like nothing is plugged in and sound only comes out of the laptop speakers.  If I choose speakers, there is sound output, but it's broken.  The sound only comes out as treble with zero bass.  It's like it's only sending 1/2 of the stereo out that it should.

I've done a hard reboot, reinstalled the sound drivers, disabled/reenabled all audio settings that I can think of that might affect this.  I'm worried that this is a hardware issue and of course the warranty expired last month.  I've searched through the forums but didn't find a topic with this exact issue.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks for the response JackE.

I solved it already.  My troubleshooting steps are in the other post the the correct forum, but basically the solution I came up with was to just reinstall windows because nothing else had any effect.  The good news is that the reinstall worked so at least wasn't a hardware issue.

Sorry, wrong laptop area.  Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to delete/move this post to the correct forum for the Swift Series laptops.

    (1) How long ago did it stop working correctly?
    (2) Have  you tested the headphones on another laptop?
    (3) Do internal speakers sound OK with the headphone unplugged?

Congrats. If Control Panel's System Protection app was turned on, you might've also been able to quickly fix it in a few minutes without re-installing Windows. Thus I suggest that you make sure System Protection is turned on in Control Panel just in case it happens again.
