I  have a chromebook 514 and its suppose to update until june 2024.   The machine keeps telling me my system is out of date and I need to update it.  When I check to update the machine it says it is up to date.  The version it has is a very old version 75.0. I have factory reset the machine and still have the same issue.  how can I get out of this loop.

Do the update manually instead of letting it update for you. That usually gets you through the bottleneck and it works normally again afterwards.

Thanks for the response.  when you say do the update manually you mean by going to help about OS and then click check for updates?  or is there another way to do it.  I click the check for updates and it tells me that I am up to date which I am clearly not.  is there another way to manually update.

it does not recognize the recovery usb.  I tried switching channels and that did not work.  I tried like 4 usb devices and it just won't even read them.   I am sure my problem is related to the article.  the fix just does not work for me since the device won't even attempt to read the USBs

    Hi @donpooper,

    Check for updates yourself

    1. Turn on your Chromebook.
    2. Connect your Chromebook to Wi-Fi.
    3. At the bottom right, select the time.
    4. Select Settings .
    5. At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
    6. Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.
    7. Select      Check for updates.
    8. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.

Yes the manual update option does not work.  I actually have google looking at this problem now because I have google work so they are confused as to why it is not updating.  I just sent my logs to them today.  But I do appreciate all the tips and I try them as you guys give them to me.

Please let us know what they come up with. We see the question relatively often with older Chromebooks.
