I found a similar issue here and applied the fixes, but nothing seems to resolve anything: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/619040/battery-charges-but-constantly-switches-from-battery-to-ac-and-vice-vers-acer-aspire-7-715-71g-53be

Laptop Acer Predator G3-571 switches from battery to AC power every few seconds and beeps.  Does not charge to full and hold a charge (even when laptop is shut down).

Unlike the post I linked, the charge at which it switches seems to vary.  it has gone from as low as 77% and as high as 99%, but it's always just around 5-10s before switching.

this all started about a week ago.  the only major change to my computer was a Windows update, 2022-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64-based systems (KB5010342) found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/february-8-2022-kb5010342-os-builds-19042-1526-19043-1526-and-19044-1526-bd5c4434-bec4-42e9-991d-5810d4ec52d9
not sure if this has anything to do with it, and i didn't see anything listed in the known issues.

I have tried:

- resetting the battery with the reset battery switch (holding for 30s and waiting at least 30m until turning on the computer) (did this 3 times)

- letting the laptop run on battery until it gets to 1% and shuts down, charge to full, then repeat (did this 3 times)

- went to Device Manager > Battery > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and deleted the drivers, restarted, and let the device reinstall the drivers.  i then checked the driver version, and it's listed as up to date

- i made sure the AC adapter is plugged in correctly but unplugging and replugging in the cord and trying it in different outlets

really at a loss of what else to try here.  any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is normal when CPU/GPU power demands are high During these times the battery must complement the charger's power output to meet the CPU/GPU power demands. Thus also during these times the battery is not being charged. If battery charge level drops below about 50%, charging it takes precedent over CPU/GPU power demands and you may see throttling activity.

    Hi JackE,

Thank you for your reply.  To be clear, this happens constantly, regardless of what programs (if any) are running.  It even does it while the computer is asleep/hibernating.

And again, it's happening every few seconds, even with no other programs running.  Like not an exaggeration, it's about 2-6s every time (I timed the shortest and longest beeps for about a minute).  It has never done this before about a week ago.

Also it has never dropped to around 55%.  It is usually around 98%.  Occasionally I would let the charger off just to get it to stop beeping, then I would put the charger back on and it would start cycling again even at around 77% (way before it's reached full charge).

Open Control Panel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in left pane. If System Protection is turned on in the  box that pops up, click System Restore button. Click next. Do you see an auto restore point with a date stamp of about a week ago when the issue started?
