Hello everyone,
the camera of my brand new Acer Swift 3x doesn't work.
When I try to activate it, the green led goes on but a black screen appears. If I try to take a picture with Microsoft application I got the following error

0xA00F4292 PhotoCaptureStartTimeout

In Device Manager everything looks fine (This device is working properly). I've already tried to disable/enable the device, uninstall/reinstall. But nothing helps.

For the first few days it worked, but now it misbehaves as described with every application (MS Teams, MS Camera, etc.). I've also checked the Privacy settings for the Apps and everything is enabled.

Can someone help me with this?

    Hi @anevola,

    1. Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.
    2. Allow apps to access your camera.
    3. Update your camera drivers.
    4. Reset the camera app.
    5. Run the System File Checker.

I tried all the 5 suggested actions by Easwar. I also updated the BIOS, but without success. I'm currently using an external USB camera, but this isn't a nice solution.

My guess is the camera itself is having hardware issues, though it could be an issue with the cable that runs between the camera and motherboard. The data is getting garbled and that's what is causing the timeout error. When the data is read as bad it does a retry and too many retries end up taking too long, throwing the timeout. Best bet if it's been a short enough time is to swap the unit out with your vendor, if it's been too long for that then contact Acer and get a support ticket started to have it repaired.
