Hello, I have an Acer Aspire E5-571 This model does NOT have an optical drive as standard.
I am doing an update, I have increased the RAM memory, changed the HDD for an SSD and it works very well but when I put the HDD, that the laptop already had, in the CD bay it is not recognized in the BIOS and Windows does not boot.  Do I have to somehow enable the CD port? Can someone help me?

  • Generally, the bios does not recognize the hard drive when it is plugged into a caddy adapter. But the hard drive should show up in the windows device manager.

Are you booting from the SSD now? Why boot from the HDD again?

I'll suggest to double check your HDD connections.

    Thanks for your help.
Windows 10 stays at the boot screen so I can't tell if it recognizes it. If the boot order is CD (HDD) -> SDD it stays trying to start Windows 10. The HDD has Windows 8.

If you have two or more bootable drives in the PC now, take out the unintended drive for the mean time. Make sure you are booting from the intended drive first. The other drive can be formatted later as data only drive.

I have mounted a formatted HDD (60Gb) with a single partition in the Caddy and the laptop boots fine from the SSD and Windows recognizes the HDD. I will format the original HDD (500GB) and try again. The problem may be because the HDD has three partitions or because it is a boot disk, but I think I'm on the right track. Again, thank you very much.

¡¡SOLVED!! Finally I have not been able to use the 500 Gb HDD, Windows recognized it mounted in the Caddy but, it gave an error when trying to format or partition it.
I bought a second-hand 750Gb HDD and it works without any problem.
Thank you @ttttt & @egydiocoelho for your help.
